Slim PS3? New PSP? Motion camera for 360?

PS3 Rumour | Ah, rumours. It must be E3.
The E3 gaming expo is a time of the year when the rumour mill goes into overdrive. Some gaming companies selectively 'leak' information to the gaming media, while a lot of speculation with various degrees of credibility gets tossed around.

The latest Sony E3 rumour involves the announcement of a possible ‘slim’ version of the PlayStation 3 at the gaming expo. Sony has denied the rumour so far, with a Sony UK representative telling Computer and Video Games that they "currently don't have any plans for a redesigned PS3."

This rumour is likely to be proven false if past experience tell us anything; it took Sony four years to produce a slimmer version of the PlayStation 2 after its release, and ‘shrinking’ the PlayStation 3 would be a much more difficult prospect. We’ll have to wait and see.

However, the other Sony hardware-related rumour is gaining momentum. This rumour involves a new version of the PSP, allegedly called the PSP Go. According to 1Up, the new PSP will likely include a redesign “available in two SKUs, with either eight or 16 GB of built-in flash memory". The other rumour doing the rounds is that the new PSP will only play downloadable-games.

The third and final rumour is rather an old one, and relates to the possibility that Sony will release a Wii-like motion-sensing controller. The same rumour is being used for the Xbox 360 as well.

In addition, it has been speculated that a motion-sensing camera for the Xbox 360 will be unveiled at E3. The Wall Street Journal. says that the device will allow players to control activity on-screen via their bodies. This rumour is believed to be quite credible, but whether the camera is announced at E3 - or how far along development of it is - is another matter.

We'll keep you posted.

-The PS3 isn't only a blu-ray player, but it's one of the very best blu-ray players.

-It comes with a hard drive by default and allows an easy process to upgrade it.

-The hard drive can be used for media center like features for movies, photos, mp3's etc

-It has built in Wi-Fi (Something MS charge $170 for an external dongle)

-It has a built in web browser

-It has bluetooth

-It's controllers don't require batteries or battery packs

-USB ports (printers, cameras, keyboards etc)

-Free network/online ($90 a year for Xbox)

-Support for dual boot PS3/Linux

-Free PC based program for creating custom themes

-free online social network, Home

-it is a quality piece of hardware that doesn't run hot, noisy or scratch discs and break every 2 months...
but not everyone wants ALL those options, most ppl just want to play games, some ppl may want a wireless connection and to play online. sony are TELLING you what you need, while microsoft make it optional.

and no im not a fan boy, i got a ps3 at launch aswell as a 360, only the 360 remains.

Isn't a motion sensing camera old tech (eyetoy anyone)? seems like msoft trying to emulate wii-waggle without breaching patents to me.

icon_neutral.gif interesting move. Well for pirates anyway. Wouldn't the games still be around 1-1.8gb? That might be a lot for some customers out there. Especially those who are on more restrictive plans offered by Telstra.
with that said i might not pay for them at all - unless there cheap enough wont be forking out $100 let alone $50 for a download only game.

Does that mean that Sony are going to follow Nintendo, and sell the current PSP alongside with this supposed new PSP, just like the DS/DSi?

I mean, wouldn't it be a dumb idea to make all those UMDs redundant? Even dumber than not having a GBA slot in the DSi?

Or are they going to make all the current PSP games downloadable, like Nintendo and the DSi version of the Virtual Console?

E3 might actually be interesting this year.

I said 'might'.

I don't think enough people understand value.

A $3 million house might be good value, I'm still not going to buy it if I can't afford it.
Some people just want to play games for cheap, thats why the Wii is doing so well.
By the way, whats the point of a blu-ray player if you don't have a high definition TV? I've never played a blu-ray disk on my PS3, whats the point if I have an old telley?

I think this could be a budget model for those who don't want all those extra features and bitch about price.

The PS3 needs a price drop.
The 360 needs some new big exclusive announcements.
Nobody needs more motion sensing controls.
Nuff said.

I don't think you understand consumers, gimmicks, and also alternative value. For instance, Blu Ray Player? $300 cheapest ive seen + xbox 360 arcade $300 ooh **** $600 still cheaper than a PS3, and when they are really on the market even the better ones will drop in price. Built in battery, battery dies, controller dies, xbox controller gives you multiple power options, and the fact the battery is hot swappable, i use the quick charge station and never plug the controller in to charge. Now as for all the extra, 1 out of 10 people would use all, i dont need wireless, i dont use the card reader, my computer does web browsing, im happy to pay the xbox live $60 a year (thats right $60, im smarter than that) because XBOX LIVE IS WORTH IT. But i think sony online will one day catch up.... one day.

So, $65 a year for say, 5 years? Probably more. Anyway, 5 years means you spent $325 just on Live, and for people like me that just isn't something I want to spend money on, I would rather put that towards more games etc.
Yeahh, how many games you buy? how about the people who pay $20 a month for WoW? you get better value for games when you play online. Any ways, this sounds like a little fan boy war any way, i have both and im happy to own both, and a reasonably ok pc. If you cant afford to buy both, fair enough, choose the console thats gonna give you the most bang for buck, if you can afford it, stop being a fanboy and buy both machines, both offer good and bad.

Hmm, maybe one a month if I can afford it? And I afford them by trading in other games. And I also play WoW, $36 for 2 months and I get about 100-200 hours out of $36 (well I did when I was addicted icon_razz.gif), that is tons of value in my opinion.
