Uncharted 2 multiplayer in the works?

One eagle-eyed gamer may just have revealed the existence of multiplayer gameplay for Naughty Dog's highly-anticipated upcoming title Uncharted 2.

Kotaku earlier broke the news, along with a picture of a Best Buy placeholder box which clearly shows that copies of the superpowered open-world game inFamous will include a multiplayer beta voucher for Uncharted 2.

The voucher is listed as valid from 3 June 2009 through to 28 June 2009, which would most likely prove to be the dates for the beta.

While Sony has yet to officially confirm a multiplayer component for Uncharted 2, rumours of its inclusion popped up earlier in the week on ScrewAttack.

The site cited an anonymous source which specified that Uncharted 2 would pack co-op multiplayer; although this has been rumoured as being a separate mode from the single-player campaign, rather than allowing two player to progress through the campaign story. Competitive multiplayer modes were also rumoured to be included though no specifics on the game modes were given.

Internet buzz circulating the major sites indicates that Sony will be providing official comment on the story early next week, though now that the rumour is out there Sony might bring forward their announcement a little earlier.

Im probably the only one who is going to say this but id prefer Uncharted to say SP. I think everything worked well with the original and I didnt feel like we missed out on something but not having a MP.

I guess time will tell if it works or not.

I'm going to chime in and say I also enjoyed Uncharted for its single player gameplay. I enjoyed the 'cinematic' storyline of the game and the way it was told, and that was all I wanted out of it (except longer playtime)

They won't have dumbed down or used any less time or resources on the single player game, don't worry. It'll be the multiplayer that was tacked on.

But it may be pretty good in saying that. Everything these guys do is gold.

I can't say I'm not a little anxious, but if Uncharted is going to have multiplayer then a separate mode from the single player is the perfect way to go about it. By all accounts Uncharted 2's main game is going to be longer and better than the first game's, so if they can do all that and put in a multiplayer mode it'll be fantastic.

If this was co-op then I could definitely see it working in some form, but shoe-horning in a multiplayer mode outside of the main game doesn't really seem to make much sense to me. I can't see how much of a success it would be in multiplayer. I mean would it just boil down to being like the many Gears-like shooting sections of the game or perhaps some sort of treasure hunting multiplayer mechanic? If this is true I hope that the single-player experience hasn't suffered as a result.

Sounds like the hub-bub that surrounded Metroid Prime 2, nothing faltered when it was given MP (even though it wasn't that great, the MP that is, SP was awesome).

This is really an unncecessary inclusion in my opinion. However, if it's done tastefully doesn't detract from the main experience, it doesn't bother me too much.
