Mortal Kombat team looking to split from Midway?

PS3 Rumour | Game over?
An earlier report from Kotaku suggests that an internal development team at Midway - who are responsible for development on the Mortal Kombat series of titles - are in the process of shopping for a new home.

Citing anonymous sources, the report says the team (who most recently completed development on Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe) is currently in talks with numerous publishers in an effort to disembark from the sinking ship that is Midway.

Sources have indicated that the search for a new home began after some bad blood appeared between Midway and the development team, with the failure of Midway to pay out bonuses for meeting Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe sales targets being the likely catalyst for the move. Midway representatives have claimed that the payments have been held up due to the unsecured creditors committee who are looking into Midway's finances since it filed for bankruptcy earlier in the year.

If the Mortal Kombat team does find a new place to call home with another publisher, it remains highly likely that the popular fighting game series may not go out the door with them - unless Midway decides to sell their rights to the franchise in order to keep their ailing company afloat.

MK series is still too popular to go down.

They won't be any shortage of takers wanting to own the franchise should Midway decide to sell the rights.

I think the mortal Kombat games are pretty crappy anyway. But then again I have not played any of the recent ones. Maybe they save the series but I doubt it.

DC vs MK was pretty rad.
