Snoop Dogg coming to Rock Band

PS3 News | Fo' shizzle!
According to an official statement by MTV, it looks like the 'D.O. Double G' will be bringing hip-hop to Harmonix's popular music title Rock Band.

So far MTV is keeping quiet on the details as no specific track names or a release date have been revealed. That said, it is highly likely the downloadable content will be timed to coincide with the release of Snoop's upcoming "Malice In Wonderland" album. More as it comes.

As long as it has real-time Human-Dogg morphing mechanic, then I'm in.

Whyyyyyyyyyyyy?

Christ and I was about to pick up Rock Band to add to my GHWT collection, at least some of the DLC is worthwhile. With this and the Country DLC what the hell is Harmonix thinking? At least Metallica is a step in the right direction.

I love rap/rnb, but honestly... This is more suited to Rap Crew than Rock Band. First a boring remix of 'Low' makes it into GHWT DLC, now this.

What uninformed crazy person is allowed to make these decisions? =/

I'm thinking that they are thinking they can expand their audience (and profit!) by offering a broader range of music. They are likely correct.

Hell, I'd buy some of the Dre-produced Snoop tracks. You could actually play them with a full band.

Don't like it don't get it.

I fail to see the problem. I'm with Goober this would be rad.

Not sure there is too much proper guitar in Snoop Dogg. Admittedly, i don't listen to much rap, but isn't snoop mostly Synth?

plenty of bass.
i actually like the idea, more variety will appeal to a much larger audience, so what if rock fans dont like it, they dont need to buy it, but rap fans or country fans will like it and they will become more interested in this then rock music.

Call me skeptical, but which Snoop track (or tracks) are you referring to? Off the top of my head I can't recall any that have any more than guitar, bass, or drum loops. I will admit that Snoop isn't one of my most-listened-to artists, so maybe he has songs - or is making some - that have sick guitar/bass tracks and will be a dream to play. I'm just doubtful.

Low, Travis Barker Remix (Feat. T-Pain) from GHWT - Average bass track, rubbish guitar track, and an actually decent looking drum track. I only played the guitar part once myself (yes, I saw T-Pain and had to buy this song pack. Impulse buying is bad), and so I feel that hiphop is meant to be on my iPod, not my GH/RB.

Why Snoop wouldn't be trying to get a deal with being part of or bringing content to Scratch: The Ultimate DJ, or even DJ Hero (instead of Rock Band) is beyond me.

Because one song represents the musical calibur of an entire genre right?

No, but rap/hip hop is hardly known for its eclectic guitar riffs and solos. In fact, most rap songs are devoid of a lead guitar completely, unless the song they remixed had guitar, in which case its cut up electronically...

^ Most Hip Hop, yes. Look to Hip Hop bands such as The Roots and you'll have plenty of material for Rock Band.

As a side note, The Roots is the most impressive Hip Hop live show I've ever seen, because they aren't just playing a CD of beats.

And let's not mention the Beastie Boys. There's no way they could work in Guitar Hero or Rock Band.

Don't worry, today "Intergalactic" was announced as one of the first tracks for Scratch: Ultimate DJ, which is also being overseen by Mix Master Mike.

With this and DJ Hero coming later this year, I don't think Hip Hop needs to be in Rock Band or Guitar Hero.

Most hiphop songs won't translate to 'fun' songs in GH/RB, but there are of course exceptions. Got any examples of these Snoop songs you speak of?

This has nothing to do with the quality of the music. It has everything to do with the translation of that music to what is effectively a stage in a game. Some suit it, some don't and that is the case for all songs across all genres.

Since hiphop is now so mainstream, and also since you boys think that it's such an awesome genre for RB/GH why are we only getting one token hiphop artist in each of the games? 1 in about 70-80 tracks (on disc). And why is the hiphop DLC so sparse?

I get the feeling that you lads either don't play much of GH/RB or you don't listen to much hiphop/rap/rnb. All I see are sarcastic one liners =/
