Mass Effect trilogy PS3 bound?

PS3 Rumour | Series may not be as exclusive as first proposed.
If the rumour coming out of Second Story Gamer proves to be true, PlayStation 3 gamers may well be getting their grubby mitts on the Mass Effect titles after all.

The gaming blog cited a 'fairly reliable source' close to the Electronic Arts camp as stating that Mass Effect 2 and any other future editions of the series will come to the PS3 as well as the Xbox 360 and PC. According to their source, this backflip can be attributed to the global economic crisis, thus forcing EA to squeeze as much revenue as possible out of the franchise.

The article also stated that it was "likely" that a PS3 port of the original Mass Effect title would make its way to gamers in mid-2009.

The mysterious source also claims that a formal announcement is set to “take place at [the] GDC”, which is scheduled to commence on March 23rd. With the 360 exclusivity rights in play with the first title (which saw a timed release for the PC version) we'll take this piece of news with a grain of salt until more is revealed.

I guess the buttons work there OK but not here:

the same argument could be made that because the PS3 is so expensive, they no longer have the money to buy a capable PC. the value of the console is completely irrelevant to their want to play a given game.
Actually that's not true:

1) if you use it for playing Blu ray titles, those are not cheap. At the very least they cost more than DVD titles
2) Games for the PS3 are very costly.

So 1) & 2) show clearly that buying a PS3 and have no cash left is just nonsense. How are they going to pay for games or BD titles? What are you going to do with it? use it to brag with your friends? use fold @ home? as a paperweight? Play one game?

True, games for xbox are expensive too, but the big difference is that with the Arcade you can play ALL _XBOX 360_ games. That means you have $200 bucks available for buying XBOX games compared to buying the PS3. But speaking of the PC:

http://configure.us.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?oc=bv2mvk13&cs=04&dgvcode=ss&c=US&l=EN&dgc=BF&cid=7420&lid=197374

409 with 22" monitor, without monitor i guess it should be around 300. $100 more than the difference between the PS3 and the xbox 360 arcade

Note that whether the price of the PS3 is justified because of all the features it includes is irrelevant to this discussion. We are discussing about the playability of console-specific games not other things.
1) and 2) might also be true, but it's still has no bearing on "if you own a PS3 you should have enough money to buy a decent PC".

i scrimped and saved to buy a PS2 when that came out, which a princely sum at the time (now i think about it, i paid more for my PS2 than i did for my PS3), and also at the time games were still $100+ each, and DVDs were $40-50 each also, so in this regard, completely analogous to the PS3, Blu-Rays and PS3 games.
didn't mean i had the money to buy a PC on top of that, nor could i afford an XBox, Gamecube or Dreamcast.

and even if i could then get $409 in one lump sum - i probably would've rather bought 4 PS2 games than a cheap PC.

perhaps it's just me, perhaps i am completely unique in this situation, but i think this mind of thinking would be more the norm than essentially spreading yourself thin over multiple platforms instead of being rich in only one.
so to my mind, the price of the console is completely irrelevant to what other platforms they have in their home.

i also get that exclusives sell consoles, but my question was specific to ME1.
Sure, and my answers were specific to ME1

if someone was wanting to play ME1, but only had a PS3,
if somebody wanted to play mario kart wii and only had an xbox 360 ...
if somebody wanted to play MGS4 or Uncharted but only had an XBOX 360 ...
if somebody wants to go to the moon but only has a pair of shoes with holes ...

....

I am not sure what's your point. There are console-exclusive titles, you must learn to live with that.
the point was still coming. you have an incredibly facetious habit of editing comments out of context to insert random comments that have no bearing on the comment as a whole.

then given the length of time they've had to save enough for the console and the game, and still haven't, chances are they aren't someone who is ever going to buy one.
Then, no point in EA releasing it for the PS3. You destroy your own argument.

However, you were always wrong. How old are the Half Life games? if your argument made any sense nobody would have bought The orange Box.

On the other hand, I already said it's pretty much for sure that EA will release ME for the PS3. The only question remains in what way. The answer for that is NOT obvious. That's something I also said.
the point of EA releasing it to the PS3 is to reach those people who only have a PS3, want to play the game, and won't buy an X360 or PC to do it.
how does this destroy my argument?
my argument all along has been that there are people who own a PS3 who won't buy an XBox or PC and want to play Mass Effect.

what's the point of porting anything?
to reach the crowd who won't buy a second platform to play it in it's original form.
didn't detract from the PC version when Half-Life 2 was ported to the XBox. didn't detract from the X360 when games like Oblivion and Bioshock were ported to the PS3. all they did was increase the coverage of the games for the developers.

and i don't believe that the first ME will be released for the PS3, despite the reasons i've somehow gotten into arguing that they will. not as a game anyway, it could happen as a bonus "movie" disc included with ME2 (should that become multiplatform, and in this case i believe it will) similar to when the Shenmue changed platform, but since Microsoft have the publishing rights to the first ME, i don't think it'll be a game port.

these publishing rights might have evaporated when Bioware were bought, but somehow i think MS would've been more robust in their negotiation of the rights such that they're inherited by EA.

so yeah, MS can still technically lose a sale - but the number is going to now be minute compared to a new release, exclusive title. so in the real world, no one loses out over ME1 heading to the PS3.
Actually this is not true. The lifespan for both consoles is ~10 years or so (at least for the PS3). One more exclusive from the xbox going to the PS3 is just one more reason not to buy the xbox. single events of a kind may not cause a great consequence, but in accumulation they can make a difference. In the long term it DOES matter.
you're technically right, Butterfly effect and all that, but you are taking everything completely and utterly literally - black and white - when there are shades of grey to the argument. i won't argue this point any more since i don't know how to put precisely what i mean into words that don't require some imagination to glean the underlying message.

for the record, there are currently 571 titles on the XBox 360, 103 are 100% exclusive to it, compared to 57 which are console exclusive, but have a PC version.
Source please?
Wikipedia.
i know it's ordinarily not the most reliable source in general, but in the case of lists like this, it's suitably so. note that the count includes titles that aren't currently out, as well as titles unique to other regions.

Thats because the rest of it was a babbling incoherent mess.
you weren't the only one "on trial", and they are minor things, but like above, it's can cascade into a butterfly effect kind of thing, which can result in over-abundance of 1337-5p34k, and no one wants that.
we tend to work more behind the scenes for larger issues.

Can someone just ban this MOFO please? I have been trying to get goss on the ME trilogy and all im hearing is this fool try and pick apart everyones comments when its CLEAR he is a fanboy himself.

I like l33t 5p34k.

I should probably get the first game before the second one is released, but then again, I need to do the same for Bioshock as well, and countless other games. Woe is me.

I just need to finish the first one, I played it and got pretty far, then stopped playing and decided to start again. then stopped playing again...

I hear you, seems to be a common problem for me and RPG games.....

I brought the 360 cause bioware made kotor which was xbox exclusive and I was looking forward to there next game. But I don't care if sony get this but I can't see it happening. Bioware is a very PC centric company meaning they started with the computer then went to the xbox cause its basically the same programming language. While they might think that making it on PS3 can make them more $$$, the microsoft guys might sign an exclusive deal with them and they get a percentage of what they would have made on PS3 with less effort.
