Silent Hill: Homecoming has minimal changes for Australia

PS3 News | Gameplay remains unchanged.
Kotaku Australia has reported that according to Atari, the changes that have been made to the edited Australian version of the game are fortunately quite minor, involving only camera angles during cut scenes. This means that the story and gameplay remain the same as the worldwide release, but that the offending material in the game's cut scenes is simply being hidden or toned down.

In the words of an Atari spokesman, "The major changes to the Australian release of Silent Hill: Homecoming will be made to its cut scenes, where new camera angles and techniques will be used to reduce the impact of the unclassifiable material. These changes have only been made to some scenes, while the original storyline remains unchanged."

The edited version of Silent Hill: Homecoming has a provisional Australian release date of 24th February 2009.

Haha! Not fair us Aussies miss out on everything good. The downloaded version on PC is going well for me anyway. This is game worth importing. icon_smile.gif

If the edits were so bloody minor then how come its taken this long? Theres still over a month remaining before anyone here plays it.. personally i'd just import it (for the PS3 guys anyway, I'm not sure if the 360 version is region-locked).

The games hardly been released anywhere, it hit the US and theres a English/Asian release. Its not out in Japan or Europe.
These 'minor' changes to the game sound good to me, I always assumed the change would come down to something like the camera panning away from the action and the characters shadows being seen. It could be a good change, give the scene's in question more style.

No gumdrop and cranberry juiced walls or love for Pyramid head, lets us take a moment of our time to reflect upon this travesty of a non alteration...

When a game fails classification like Silent Hill: Homecoming has, is it ok then to just make a region free version of the game with all it's content intact? Like instead of releasing an australia version, just make the PAL version region free? Leave the Japanese and US version alone just make the PAL version region free and those that really want it will be able to get it pretty easily, especially in this day and age. Devs need to make a stand against this stupid rating system of ours and actually cut off Australian sales to have any sort of impact really. When someone's wallet aches that's pretty much the only time you'll see an action taken on anything.

Uh... the PAL versions are region free (to the extent that all PAL regions play all PAL versions, so technically not region free but you get what I mean). You could buy the game from the UK and it'll be uncensored.

Umm....I mean....oops! Yea I screwed up that post. I should've just gone with the comment of region freeing the NTSC version (which was the original train of thought), the point still stands but yea my wording (using Pal and all that jazz) screwed it up.

So yea can we still import the U.K version for 360 and that version ain't censored? No biggie at all then I guess.

Yeah you can, that's what I was doing with Fallout 3 so it kind of pissed me off when it was revealed that all the FO3's would be editted. No reason why you can't do it with Homecoming. The only downside is the strength of the UK dollar means you're unlikely to save much.

^ i was doing that too - had a couple of CEs ordered from HMV.co.uk for me and a mate.

i actually didn't mind when it came out all versions had been editted, because:
1) the change brought it more inline with the previous Fallouts
2) it meant i could play it from day one, instead of waiting for postage. (which was the more important reason).

i also imported the UK GTA4 to likewise get the unedited version.

stuff it they have some nerve charging more for edited content .

Would Atari say anything different? Of course their going to say they haven't cut too much out or what's the point of buying the game locally. It's a bit like accepting a used car sellers first offer.
They're probably just trying to make us feel better because of our classification system.

Until R18 classification is introduced the smart people are the ones who import enjoying the game for what it's original intention was. Meanwhile money that could be spent here goes offshore.
