Fallout 3 patch released

PS3 News | Operation Anchorage DLC given a release date.
Bethesda has today released a patch for their critically acclaimed post-apocalyptic adventure, Fallout 3.

The patch addresses many of the numerous little bugs seen the game, such as crashes during various parts of the game, disappearing NPCs, and various little bugs seen in different questions throughout the game. A comprehensive list of all the bugs repaired can be found here. If you're playing on a PC, here's the link for the patch.

There's more good news for Fallout 3 fans, though. The first piece of DLC for the game, Operation: Anchorage, has been dated, and is set to arrive on the 27th of January on the Xbox 360 and PC - not the PS3, due to exclusivity arrangements.

In the DLC, players will take part in a military simulation of the Battle of Anchorage, prior to the world's destruction, guiding a stealthy team across Alaska in an effort to repel the communist Chinese invaders. Because nobody likes communists. The DLC adds an estimated five hours of play time to the game - as well as a host of new weapons and toys - and will come at the cost of 800 MS points.

@Devonuto -
You can download the update for the PC version by logging onto Games for Windows Live or downloading the update here. PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 users with online connectivity will receive a notification of the update upon starting the game.

From what I've read, PS3 users already had the patch as it's the one that includes the fix for freezing when you get a system notification...

To clarify,

DLC on 27th is only Xbox 360 and PC.

Patch is for all systems and adds PS3 trophys (PS3 may already have had this in Dec?)

Will either patch work for the Australian version of Fallout 3 or are we still screwed with a nearly unplayable Fallout 3? icon_sad.gif

**** finally! Now perhaps I'll be able to make some progress in the game without having to worry about crashes every 5 to 15 bloody minutes.

They work for all versions of Fallout 3, no matter the region or console.

Thanks, that just made my day knowing that Fallout 3 may actually be playable.

@ the extra content..

Does anyone else thing that these so called exclu$ivity 'tactics' are complete horsepoo? What a childish ploy by Microsoft to try and buy people over to buy their console over Sony's and how ridiculous for the developers to go into such a contract whilst singlehandedly backslapping a faithful consumer! This is coming from someone who doesn't even own a Playstation 3.

"Exclu$ivity" = pile of wank.

I just installed the patch and 5 minutes in the first level after looking at the SPECIAL book it froze again and has done so 5 times now, the patch is meant to fix this BS and I can't even go 5 minutes in without it freezing, this is really really pissing me off.

Your absolutely right, Microsoft are being douches by doing this and it's ridiculous Bethesda are doing it, it's the same for GTAIV's exclusive content and if PS3 owners don't get the third DLC which extends the overall story then thats terrible and Microsoft are being jerks.

Again, it's not microsoft being 'jerks' it's a smart buisness decision. Do you honestly think Sony wouldn't pull the same thing if given the opportunity?

^ and didn't they do exactly that, with Mirror's Edge?

And here I thought gaming; when it comes to being a consumer, was all about entertainment and having fun?

I suppose Bethesda don't mind that they're actually risking losing support from fans who don't own a 360.

Yes, developers, etc need to get paid for their work. Gaming was always a business and way for people in the industry to get paid. Now it seems everyone wants to maximise their money, regardless of how it's done. That's what disappoints me these days..

or PC.

so basically, losing the support of those with the game on the PS3.

i'm sure the money they got from Microsoft for exclusivity more than paid for the estimate they'd made from selling the content to PS3 users.

i bought it on the XBox primarily for the DLC - i mean it was the deciding factor for me. if the content was PS3 exclusive, i would've bought it on PS3.

mission accomplished from MS's perspective.

It is about having fun for consumers. Microsoft and Bethesda arent the consumers though are they? They are the business trying to make money. Obviously Bethesda saw it as a good business decision, same with Rockstar.

I agree it sucks for consumers. But you cant blame MS for trying to gain the upper hand in their market. ALL companies do this. Microsoft dont care that they are screwing PS3 owners out of DLC.

Anyway I bought the x360 version so hurray icon_smile.gif

That much is obvious. Apart from the "hooray for me because I got the 360 version" part, I feel that it's disappointing for a developer to buy into a deal that leaves other fans in the dry. Dont you? How would you feel if it was an exclu$ive on a console that you didn't own and couldn't afford to get for the sake of one game?

And most importantly, to go off what you say further..

It's a sad state of affairs when we're charged money to get our hands on a few ingame 'costumes' or a level that was left out of a game specifically for people to pay for it. This applies to all the micro transaction crap we're getting shoved down our throats these days. Instead of making a full game now, it seems that developers are trimming the fat and selling it by the milligram.

The worse part? People are actually forking out for it!

Quality is only set to decline in games if people are so quick to part with their cash. You said it yourself.. publishers are in it for the big bucks and not just a simple paycheque like it used to be. Exploitation (or is that extortion?) is only sure to rise if the "Maximum $$ Leeched From The Consumer Test" never gets shot down. You talk about the fact that it's the right business plan, but what about morality? How does this business plan affect you? Or more importantly.. how will it affect you in the future, is the question you should ask yourself, because the way things are going, companies feeding from your wallet successfully will give you no quarter.

Freedoms exist on every plane and even in gaming. There's the DRM issue for example, or forced advertising in games when you already paid the full price. Let's not try and forego the freedoms we enjoyed in the past by showing money leeching companies that we will so easily submit to their methods.

A more recent example is the Microsoft and their "Games For Windows" 'initiative' (more like "debacle"). I am hoping with crossed fingers that there are PC gamers out there who somehow refuse to fork out for an Xbox 'Live' subscription just to play online. If this isn't the case and PC gamers are quite happy to pay for something they've been able to enjoy for free for 12+ years, then the world has simply gone to the dogs. M$ is really overstepping the mark on that one.

The same way I would for any other console exclusive. I'd like to play uncharted or FF 13 Versus but I'm not going to curse out Sony for being money hungry evil satanists for having exclusives on em.

Question: If quality was set to decline then why was 2007 agreed by most people to be one of the best years in gaming, with 2008 close behind it. The quality of games comming out at the moment is pretty **** awesome.

They provide a game that I want to buy, I give them money to purchase it. They then later release downlodable content that I would like to purchase, I give my money to them in exchange for it.

I don't see this as money leeching, I see this as exchanging goods and services for money. Like people have been doing since forever.

Jaws - I guess we are going a little off track here, but I agree 100% about games for windows having to pay for what has been free for many years. Lame.

But this generation of consoles has introduced downloads, patches, dlc etc that we haven't had before, so it opens up a whole new way for Sony/Nintendo/Microsoft to make money. I agree with you, paying for extra skins is a bit rich, so I choose not to.

In this case I dont think this is simply a level that was left out of the full game, but something they have gone to the effort of creating in addition to main game. So I will happily buy it....I also have a fulltime job so its not a big deal to me spending $10 here and there, but I guess to some of the younger gamers it sucks.

I guess it all depends on which way you view it..... left out of main game or expansion to the main game?

Back on topic I understand what you are saying about morality etc, but this is the world we live in companies do deals with other companies for exclusive markets, not just in gaming, how many times do you hear "available exclusively at.....". I dont really think its childish, it's how business runs.

I think its hillarious all this ' ohh its all about the gamers experience' bs.

Microsoft obviously needs to make xbox 360 attractive as possible, and its a bloody awesome business move securing dlc for big name games such as fallout 3 and gta 4. good on them, they are doing as wel for the console as they can.

Honestly I want to see a DLC pack that stops the charecters from being horrifying dead eyed emotionless zombies...
