LittleBigPlanet at 1.3 million sold

PS3 News | CES also reveals PSN account numbers and PlayStation Home downloads.
Following their keynote address during the Las Vegas Consumer Electronics Show, Sony have revealed that LittleBigPlanet has reached an impressive 1.3 million sales worldwide and that over 300,000 user generated levels have been created, estimating at a total playing time of two years.

The address also highlighted the growth of the PlayStation Network reaching 17 million users logged, with 2.1 million of them being added in the last month alone. PlayStation Home has netted 3.4 million downloads so far, with the Home service so far selling over one million dollars worth of goods.

Perhaps also worth interest as GameSpot notes, is the PSP and PS3 user base has reached 61.3 million, though it's a little ambiguous if Sony was talking about hardware numbers or individual user accounts.

As one of the 5 best games last year I expected LBP to reach a higher number than that!

2008 was a good catchup year for Sony getting quality exclusives like LBP, MGS4 and Resistance 2 but still has the price problem, they need to shift more units per month and they wont be doing it at that price. One of their biggest cash cow franchises is Singstar, however the machine is too expensive for that audience.

In my humble (and Im sure minority opinion) LBP was BETTER than MGS4 as an exclusive.. We all knew MGS4 was going to be awesome, but LBP was just a breath of fresh air and some of the user generated levels are nothing short of awe inspiring and better than the levels in the game..
Anyone with a PS3 owes it to themselves to pick up this game as it reminds you how to just sit down and have fun with a game.. Plus, I can play it with my 2 year old in the room without worrying about her seeing violence that will disturb her... I think she loves Sackboy and his costumes more than me!

Agreed. Totally.

As someone who doesn't own a PS3; I have only ever considered buying one for LBP. As it was said by Pdaddy, LBP is a breath of fresh air, and a much needed one at that.

Though the sales are decent, I think it's just the 'look' of the game that drove some people away from buying it. Too many a time I see people overlook it at stores because it looks 'childish'. But that's just how a lot of consumers are, particularly the male ones: they pick the game that looks tough and masculine and miss out on ingenuity like LBP.

^ Same. I got it for my bf's christmas present but it did took me a while to think should I buy it as a gift. Zhou said it was good, but when I was holding a copy at JB, I keep thinking it may have been too childish for a grown man.

I was so wrong and I wish I had a ps3 to have my own copy icon_biggrin.gif. Till then... *me remembers her bunny eared/tailed brown knitted with a open mouth tongue poked out expression sackboy*

What a game? It sales have been building slowly but consistently. It shows people want fresh IP and want effective level building within their games.

I think the 61million is referring to sales.

1.3 million for what is a niche genre (2D Platformers - we aren't living in the 8/16 bit eras any more), with a fairly niche 'gimmick' (I doubt building levels really appeals to the wider crowd) for a brand new IP, which as has been mentioned already, is a kiddy looking one, is VERY good.

But with the way the internet hypes this game like its the second coming of Jesus, it still manages to seem disappointing.

if anything, sony were probably hoping to target everyone except the typical male console gamer. whether they could be further convinced into shelling out 700 bucks for a ps3 is an entirely different matter....
