Silent Hill: Homecoming classified in Australia

PS3 News | Receives a MA15+ rating by Australian Classification Board.
Back in September 2008, it was reported that Silent Hill: Homecoming had been refused classification in Australia, meaning it was illegal to sell here.

However, as earlier reported on Gamespot, Silent Hill: Homecoming has now received the necessary MA15+ rating, which means it can now be sold in Australia. A check of the Australian Classification Board’s website confirms that the game did indeed receive the revised rating on 5 January 2009. The database notes the ‘version’ as 'REVISED', but no details are available yet on what changes have been made. As expected, the consumer advice confirms the title’s ‘strong horror violence and themes’.

While on the topic of game classifications, why not take our survey regarding R18+ ratings here and tell us what you think.

Nah G, the walls now bleed gumdrops and cranberry juice while Pyramid head follows you simply to gives you flowers and profess his love for you.

Meh, imported and finished it ages ago. I wonder how much they censored though?

Well, there's no way I'll be purchasing the edited version of the game. I'll either download it or import it, depending on whether or not I can be bothered worrying about whether or not customs will confiscate the game.

Once again this nations inane classification system has been rendered absolutely irrelevant.

Of course, if we already had a R18+ rating (like we should), then we would not have received an edited version at all.

Didn't Labor say that an "R18+ discussion paper" would be released by the end of last year? That did not happen.

No that was the Attorney Generals of each State (independent of the government parties). The SA representative (M. Atkinson) later decided it would be better to block the discussion paper, I'm not sure he has given it the go ahead since then or not.

Atkinson thought the original discussion paper was biased, so he forced some changes and has since approved the revised version: http://blogs.theage.com.au/screenplay/archives/010998.html
