Dark Athena not dead

PS3 News | Atari confirms that they will publish new Riddick title.
Atari has revealed that they have picked up the publishing rights to The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena from Activision Blizzard, who declined to pick up the project after merging with Vivendi Games in recent months.

Dark Athena was originally billed as a remake of The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay, but Atari has since retooled the project.

Confirming the news via press release, the publisher has stated that alongside remaking the original game, The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena will represent "an entirely new chapter in the Riddick saga" by featuring "a brand new full-length campaign."

The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena is scheduled to assault the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 during the second quarter of 2009.

Awesome news! Butcher Bay was one of the best games on the original Xbox.

Personally, I would rather The Darkness 2, but this is still great news, the original is a masterpiece. The info saying that the game will come with "a brand new full-length campaign" is exciting, as just releasing a remake of the original would've been crap (it only came out 4 years ago). Is Vin Diesel still involved though? I heard a rumour that the reason the game was delayed was due to him backing out of the project. It wouldn't be the same without him.

EDIT: Okay, that last line sounded a bit gay. I meant that the character of Riddick requires Vin's deep manly voice and likeness. Less gay?

That edit sounds much stauncher bobbowblaw and I agree Riddick ain't Riddick without V.D. The original game was developed my his own studio if I remember correctly, is that now defunct?

The original was developed by both Tigon (V.D's studio) and Starbreeze Studios (developers of The Darkness). Tigon are still alive, and I'm pretty sure they're working on a game adaptation of VD's upcoming film "The Wheelman"
