Guitar Hero World Tour PS3 drums incompatible with Rock Band?

PS3 News | Universal instrument compatability not quite so universal?
As Guitar Hero World Tour finds its way into the hands of awaiting rhythm-game fans in America, complaints are starting to build up surrounding the game's instruments, specificially the Playstation 3 version's drums. Joystiq are reporting that gamers are swiftly discovering that the drum kit supplied with Guitar Hero World Tour is not recognised by Rock Band or Rock Band 2.

Sony has previously promised that, "Guitar Hero: World Tour’s guitars and drums will work with Rock Band 2 and Konami’s Rock Revolution software." However, it is unclear at this stage whether a patch will be released to fix the incompatability issue, or when it will arrive.

At this stage this issue appears to only affect the Playstation 3 Guitar Hero World Tour drums, and not the guitar or microphone. It also seems that all the instruments in both Rock Band games are compatible with Guitar Hero World Tour.

Guitar Hero World Tour has an Australian release date of 12th November. Australia will also finally be getting Rock Band on 7th November, however Rock Band 2 has no official release date as of yet.

Sounds more like it's Sony's fault than anyone else =/

i don't think there will be a patch - from activision at least

I hear the Ion drum kit doesn't work properly either (for 360 and PS3 I believe). It recognises it as a World Tour drum kit but when you hit a cymbal it activates another note as well.

I would imagine that would be pretty painful if you spent $300 on them and it didn't even work with all the drum games.

Hopefully there'll be a patch coming.

I've read a few reports about it workign fine with the 360 version, I really hope this is the case!

Well that basically seals it for me. Despite my misgivings about supporting Harmonix after the way they've treated our region, I'll be getting Rock Band instead. There's arrogance, and then there's utter douchebaggery. This is the latter, especially with those terms of use.

EDIT:

Probably true, the 360 controllers are all basically using the exact same interface - the guitar controllers and whatnot just look like normal 360 pads to the underlying system. (For an amusing diversion with some friends, try playing a two-player Halo 3 deathmatch with guitar controllers)

It's also on the Guitar Hero 3 and assumably Guitar Hero Aerosmith ones too.

I mean, look at Aerosmith now- You can play it with a Strat...

I;m worried about this. I intend to get RB as well and play it with my HG instruments. If this is the case then i need to cancel my order and get the RB instrument pack instead..i dont see why there isnt an official comment made regarding this as its going to cost them sales if its left up in the air..

Good thing I don't like RB and I'm only getting the guitar for GHWT.

If there ends up being no fix I'll just get the game by itself and use the GH3 controller. Screw it. I'm fed up with this crap too. I might just have to put in some effort and get FretsOnFire to work.

No cash for dodgy peripherals! No cash for dodgy peripherals!

I'll go the Rock Band alternative I think. I've played it, I enjoyed it, and the misses loves it to.

GHWT can be for guitar and singing only.

What's been more worrying is that there have been loads of Guitar problems reported.

There's an entire several page long thread of complaints about their guitars suffering problems with Down Strums, which ironically plagued the first two versions of the Rock Band 1 Stratocaster.

There's also a few people reporting that they have incredibly sensitive slider pads, some people happily strumming with arm hairs.

That being said, everybody's more angry at the Cymbals on the GH:WT Drum Kits being of poor quality.

ok - gone back and having read the Joystiq article a hundredth time and looking at these comments - I am definitely cancelling my preorder -
saves me $280 and a a lot of heartache...
On the bright side, i will get almost a brand new set at approx half the price in 3 -4 months from Cash Converters....

oh well, got my rockband drums today (mentioned in every thread possible to show my happiness)

and i no they work with ghwt so shouldnt be a problem.

is there any compatibility with rock revolution, and does that have its own drum kit?

Yes there will be full compatibility because Konami knows that nobody is going to buy their utterly crap game and Fisher-Price Drum Kit Peripheral.

I'm probably being a bit dumb, but I don't see how the Rock Band Drums can work with Guitar Hero World Tour...?
I have the rock band drums and the foot pedal is the orange "button". Whereas on the guitar gero World Tour drums, the cymbals are both yellow (for left, I think) and orange (for right?). What is the colour for the foot pedal on Guitar Hero World Tour? - isn't it just black? So how would the Rock Band drums work in comparison with the game? Surely something would be missing?

The Guitar Hero game is said to automatically detect if you are using a four pad (Rock band) or a five pad (GH WT) drum kit and adjust the game accordingly.

Ah..., thanks for that. I definitely won't buy the Guitar Hero WT drums as well then... space is an issue

It's interesting to note that my friend is picking up his drums from EB tomorrow.

I've been playing GHWT on PS2 with my RB drumkit and it "works" with a couple of issues:
to invoke star power you need to hit both cymbals simultaneously - obviously something you can't do with the RB drumkit.
it won't allow you to do training at all.
