Latest Soul Calibur IV DLC ditches console exclusive characters

PS3 News | Yoda and Vader freely available on both consoles.
The often rumoured plan has now been confirmed with publisher Namco Bandai officially announcing that the next lot of downloadable content for Soul Calibur IV will give players the opportunity to bring the once platform-exclusive Star Wars characters to the other console.

This means that Xbox 360 users will finally get the chance to bust out with the dark side of the force as Darth Vader, while PlayStation 3 users will get the chance to play as the lean, green, Sith fighting machine that is Jedi Master Yoda.

While the release is not yet confirmed for PAL territories, the downloadable content will be hitting our Japanese and North American friends on October 23. The X360 version of this DLC will sell for 400 Microsoft Points, with the PS3 version setting players back around $5 US.

PALGN will keep gamers informed on the PAL release date as more information comes to hand.

...$8-9 for one character?

Ummm... No?

If those youtube videos posted a while back are to be believed, the data for both characters are already in the game, in which case charging for these is a load of crap.

Unfortunately, I'd probably buy Vader anyway.

Funnily enough, out of all the characters, I play vadar the least. Most of the time I just use a custom character modeled on Cervantes.

Not a big fan of SWs to actually buy this, especially for that kind of money for a single character.

But knowing a few fans this should be a hit.

Not really a fan of Yoda or the Apprentice, so I don't think I'll bother to be honest.

It was not a great idea in the first place? I mean what was the advantage NAMCO saw in having exclusive Star Wars characters for each version?

Surely they didnt think people who own both a 360 and PS3 were going to shell out dough for both versions just play both Yoda and Vader?

Did anyone seriously not see this comming?

Where does it say that that is the only content in the DLC?

^^ I was really hoping they would be more giving but after the equipment/costume packs became available I pretty much gave up hope that we would be receiving them for free.

Soul Calibur IV is an awesome game and I'm interested in using Darth Vader but I'm not going to pay for content that was already on the disc in the first plae.

I think this should definitely be free. Other companies offer free ad ons, so why can't Namco?

If it included VS Team Battle, then I would think really hard about handing over my points.

I wouldn't need any thought if it contained VS Team Battle.VS Team Battle is THE reason I play Tekken games WAY longer than any other fighting series.

Last time I checked, all the DLC outfits are already on the disc, too.

Certainly not the first game Namco have done it with; if I recall correctly, Ace Combat 6's DLC planes are already on the disc. It promises a 10mb download but it completes immediately, rather dubious... (but dammit, I can't resist the IdolM@ster planes icon_sad.gif )

screw you DLC

Microsoft and Sony need this rule added to their TOS or whatever:

You may not charge for content that is already on the disc.

Sure, developers would just not put it on, but then at least you are downloading, and not unlocking.

Someone is surely going to "Grant Hack-it".

(Get the DLC for free)

I totally agree. It's bull that we should pay for the company to unlock things in a game that's already been purchased. Whoever's idea this was should die in an ironic saw related death.

The hope is that you might get cut down versions cheaper. I wonder if we won't see more and more "extended demos" for half full game price and you can DLC the rest of the game. That will kill resales of games which means more sales. Good news for some me hearties. Yarrr.
