Rock Band officially dated in Australia

PS3 News | Game launching November 7, pricing confirmed.
According to IGN, Electronic Arts has announced that Rock Band will be released in Australia on November 7. Australians now only have less than two months to endure in finally getting their hands on the Harmonix developed music simulation game.

The original Rock Band will be released on PlayStation 3, PlayStation 2, Xbox 360 and Wii, with consumers given a number of different packages to choose from. IGN reports that each version of the game will be bundled with the entire assortment of instruments for the total price of $250. Purchasers will also be able to buy the game and drums for $180, game and guitar for $140 or an extra guitar for $90.

The Rock Band game will also retail separately on every platform. The standalone title will sell for $70 on PS2, $90 on Wii, and $100 on PS3 and Xbox 360.

Interestingly, Rock Band will be landing on shelves five days before Activision's latest music simulator Guitar Hero World Tour. Also worthy of note is that the entire Rock Band bundle is priced somewhat cheaper than the equivalent Guitar Hero package, which carries an RRP of between $299.95 and $329.95. Nonetheless, our very own Poll of the Week revealed that over 80 per cent of voters would opt for Guitar Hero over Rock Band.

GameSpot reports that an Electronic Arts spokesperson was unable to provide clarification on local pricing and availability of Rock Band downloadable content, or an Australian release date for Rock Band 2.

While you ponder your holiday spending this year, why not check out the track lists for Rock Band and its musical counterpart, Guitar Hero World Tour?

Lol, Rock Band 1. I might have been interested if it was Rock Band 2. I'll be sticking with Guitar Hero: World Tour, thanks.

haha, oh god this is just sad.

ow! my teeth! why are you kicking me in them.....

At a glance, it's $20 more expensive than Guitar Hero IV?

If they really wanted to make a splash here, they should have slashed $50 or so off the RRP of the actual software, pricing it cheaper than the newer GH IV..

Or y'know, releasing it a year ago.

If they really wanted to make it more satisfying, they could've upgraded the kit with RB2 instruments instead of giving us the stock which gathered dust in US.

I thought the pricing was going to be much worse.

Will the Guitar Hero World Tour instruments be compatible with Rock Band?

Why would anyone in their right mind buy these obsolete, and (proven to be) poorly made instruments, and also pay more for them than GHWT?

No, they WILL be compatible with RB2, so you can just import RB2. RB1 songs can also be imported into RB2 for a cost of US$5.00

My play is to buy the GHWT instruments (already pre-ordered), import RB2 from the US and then import a copy of RB1, transfer the songs to RB2, and play everything with the GHWT instruments.

Um... these prices are cheaper than World Tour, what are you guys smoking? World Tour is 330 for Game, Guitar, Mic and Drums, (although JB are selling it for 288). Pretty sure basic math tells me 330 is more than 250, I could be wrong though.

I'm actually tempted now with that pricing for the instrument set, after I'd basically finalised that I was going to get GHWT.

I think it is about $80 cheaper, because the $330 version of GH:WT is the one with all the instruments, while the $250 RB one has their instrument bundle.

It'll be interesting to see how much demand there is from the casual market, simply because people go absolutely **** over any GH games.

This is going to be a hilariously awesome christmas (I work in a games store).

Apparantly GHWT has better quality instruments though so I wouldn't cancel any preorders just yet, besides I think everyone needs to kick EA and Harmonix in the balls by boycotting. I would be so stoked if all the distributors in Australia boycotted ALL Rock Band titles, though that'd piss of a few gamers.

Havn't your heard or read anything on the RB1 instruments, they have several flaws, they are clicky and noisy, not velocity sensitive. If they were the RB2 instruments, then you would have a tough decision, but sadly, we get the year old and obsolete instruments.

Also think about the treatment harmonix have given the PAL regions. RB2 IS ALREADY OUT in the US.

I don't really care about that at the end of the day. Being principled about my consumerism isn't really worth it if it means sacrificing a bargain or a higher-quality product. I don't care enough to make the purchase based on emotion.

But these instrument issues do somewhat concern me; I hadn't heard about this. Any sources to back this up?

I just thought with was general knowledge, also, you should be aware the RB1 drums are wired, i think the guitar might be too.

Looks as though I'll be buying GHWT and then when i get bored of that, and when the price of this drops ill grab it.

wow, there really JUST getting in befor GH release arn't they.
Might pick up the game on its own, IF in time they patch the game for both RB2 and GH: WT instruments. Unless they release RB2 sooner, i'd love to get the Oasis songs that they have as DLC.

$250 is just the instruments I'm pretty sure, then you need to spend $100 on the game.

RB2 will be released in the US for PS3 just after GHWT, just import it.

The game and instruments will reportedly come together for $250.

Yeh, $250 will include the game.

should still be called support band

well i got rock band on ps3 on the weekend and have to say Im looking forward to GH:WT now!

I've already imported RB for PS3, so its good to know that i can get replacement instruments --- but i'd rather GHWT instruments anyways...
That said, while EA/Harmonix have confirmed that RB/RB2 instruments will work with GHWT and Sony has "promised" compatibility, Activision have yet to confirm that their instruments will work with RB games :\
