Aerosmith makes more money from Guitar Hero than any album

PS3 News | Perhaps more bands will decide to walk this way.
Industry website Gamasutra has reported that rock band Aerosmith has made more money from Guitar Hero: Aerosmith than from any of its individual albums. In addition, Activision CEO Bobby Kotick is reported as saying, 'Merchandising, concert sales, their ability to sign a new contract...all been unbelievably influenced by their participation in Guitar Hero.’

At this stage Metallica are the only other band rumoured to be receiving their own individual Guitar Hero release.

This news is coupled with Activision's plans to significantly expand the Guitar Hero franchise by 2010. Given these factors, it will be interesting to see if other big-name bands with suitable back catalogues begin clamouring to get their own shot at Guitar Hero in the near future.

As much as I love Guitar Hero...

No, just no. Sure I bought GH:A, and I played through it and thought it was *ok*. But a Guitar Hero game really needs some variety if it's going to have any lasting appeal.

In GH:A, only a handful of songs are fun to play, and most feel really boring. Whereas in GH3 there were 70 odd songs that I had never heard before from genres I don't ever listen to, and I enjoyed most of them and had lots of fun.

I also think GH:A multiplayer might be dead, cause I popped the disc in last week to have a go at some online and came up short for about 20minutes before I gave up. Went back to GH3 and got into a game right away =/

Please just do things as DLC. Characters, venues, songs, it can all be done via DLC. Don't do another one-band game T_T.

Don't forget the rumoured Guitar Hero Beatles. icon_smile.gif

And I don't see how they could make more money out of the game then any of their albums. The game is meant to have made around $50 million whereas just one of their albums, Toys in the Attic sold 8 millions copies just in America. Defiantly over $50million worth of sales.

And yeah, please no more stand alone guitar heros (except The Beatles).

GH: Metallica? Why not just GH: Metal! There doesn't look enough of it in World Tour...

Only rock gods with 10+ number ones and over 5 albums should get a standalone game. Sure, there's probably loads of artists that have done that, but there at least should be a benchmark, so there isn't an overflow of rubbish.

Anyway, i'll be cheerin' if the chilli's make one, and foo fighters too.

But like what's been said before, just make a download pack, the games using the same engine and all, it all could be easily downloaded.

And i would assume there would be more profit in paid DLC. Without the cost of packaging and authoring discs what not. If the digitally distribute they cut out that cost.

ROFL, wasn't there recently some jerk from the music industry complaining that bands weren't getting a big enough cut from guitar hero type games? Clearly this is proof that he/she was wrong icon_razz.gif

^ Possibly, though remember this is strictly an Aerosmith game, with what I'd assume has a ton more songs on it than ONE single album that Aerosmith has released.

So it's a bit hard to compare that with one single song from an artist. I do agree however that they have probably been compensated fairly enough for the license/s to use the songs.

There was probably more of a turnover with the albums, but the artists get hardly a slice of the pie (I've heard $1 an album, but it could be wrong), and so by the sounds of it they must get a better share from guitar hero.
