Resi Evil 5 control scheme to be 'Gears-like'

PS3 News | Game's producer confirms a new control scheme.
Capcom has suggested that their upcoming survival horror game Resident Evil 5 will have rather difficult controls from what we experienced in the fourth game in the series.

While the controls in Resident Evil 4 were a massive upgrade from the first few games in the series, there is no doubt that they could do with some additional tweaking to help bring the series into the next generation.

Jun Takeuchi, boss of Resident Evil 5, suggested that the game would have upgraded controls back in July during E3. According to Kotaku, he has now confirmed that the change has taken place, and that the new controls will be playable during the upcoming Tokyo Game Show next month.

He wasn't big on sharing any specifics, but he did mention that they will be similar to Gears of War - should this be the case, it will be a big change to the slow and tense approach of past games in the series.

Resident Evil 5 is set to horrify PS3 and Xbox 360 owners everywhere when it is released in March next year.

I thought Gears of Wars' controls were great, apart from when you double tap in a direction and Marcus dives that way (though you could turn it off). I don't see how the controls will be more difficult than ResEvil 4. In my opinion, they'll be far superior.

Gears of War had the slowest and most clunky controls of any shooter I've played. It was like manipulating a character through knee-deep mud, only to hit a wall and find that mud had found it's way to his back and was now acting like an adhesive.

In a word: lame.

edit: not that RE games have ever had good controls...

It won't be the same, being able to run and shoot.

^ I still think that is hands down the funniest comment ever made in regards to a game... ever.

I'm with Spanca though, Gears is like the RE of the shooter World it handled like arse, especially when toying with Berserkers it was a test in player patience more than anything else.

I agree and that is what Epic wanted - they didnt want the normal run and shoot - rather they coined the phrase "pop and shoot" -

RE has always been about slow movements and cheap scares.... I reckon the control scheme would fit in quite well... however I did not see the roadie run on the GC gameplay videos ...

I thought the Gears controls were alright however it was waaaaaay to reliant on one buttton that it became a headache sometimes. If they clear up the A button addiction this could work quite well

I would've liked to see controls like Assassin's Creed icon_annoyed.gif I could move and run so freely~ not like RE5 characters would be able todo that

I never had a problem with the Gears controll scheme, I thought it was actully pretty brilliant to play.

RE4 on the Wii had awesome controls. Though IMO RE5 will be alot worse than that icon_sad.gif

Gears had the best controls ever. The game wasnt meant to be so you could speedily run around, you were fast if you needed to get away or needed to catch up, you moved slow and cautiously whilst aiming in , and you moved at hte speed you would if you had 20-30kg of armour on you whilst walking/jogging.

If I were one of the Gears dudes, I'd ditch the armor in favour of maneuverability. Then again, in a World where you can just sit down behind a rock and all your wounds heal up perfectly it kind of makes the idea of armor redundant anyway.

I Liked the controls on Gears of war. Will there be a similar cover system?

Why? If there are lots of enemies that shoot then its not a Resident Evil game.
Although actually I do recall a few gun fights, so there might be a cover system you just don't use much.
