PS3 to get exclusive Mirror's Edge DLC

PS3 News | Not sure what yet, though.
Sony has stated that the upcoming first-person action game, Mirror's Edge, will receive downloadable content that will be exclusive to the PlayStation Network.

"PlayStation has an exclusive marketing agreement with EA regarding the title," a spokesperson for Sony told Eurogamer. "Exclusive downloadable content will be offered on the PlayStation Network."

The spokesperson also clarified that Mirror's Edge would not be a PS3 timed exclusive, as David Reeves mentioned to Heise last month, and that the game will launch for the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC all at once.

"There was a misunderstanding in terms of the quote that Mirror's Edge is to be a timed exclusive on PS3."

Mirror's Edge sees players take control of Faith, as she fights and free runs her way through lots of big skyscrapers. It's due for a release in Australia sometime in Q4. If you're curious and want to know more, you can read our E3 preview here.

The IGN article on this alludes to the fact that maybe Sony hasn't completely worked out the deal with EA. Only because EA said they aren't in a position to talk about it.

Thats great. I'll buy the 360 version to avoid all this 'exclusive content' business.

I've been wondering whether to get this for PC or PS3, and this might decide it. I'll have to see what the DLC is, though.

Its about time the PS3 got some exclusive DLC.

This is the game I'm most looking forward to this year along with LittleBigPlanet. I reckon the exclusive DLC will have something to do with Trophies. Perhaps even something connected to Home if the 2008 release date is to be believed (for Home).

That stings harsher than anything except LBP's PS3 exclusivity. Sony is actually starting to pull me over...

I wonder what that trophey would look like that appears in home icon_annoyed.gif maybe a shoe.

^ Perhaps the exclusive content will be downloadable 'running' gear for your Home avatars? icon_razz.gif

If they don't announce what form the DLC will take before release then I'll default to PC, they might just win me over if its anything good though. Assuming that the PC SKU actually launches on the same day as the others...

But I want exclusive content on the PC icon_sad.gif

In all seriousness, this doesn't bother me. I hardly get to play around with everything a game has to offer by default, I wouldn't have bought the DLC anyway (eg Mass Effect DLC, regardless of how much I loved the game, I don't really need another sidemission).

Sweet O'brien in 101! Have you SEEN Faith's cleft toe shoes!? SWOON! I want a pair for scootching around town AND Home virtually and otherwise! I'd have to do something about those fEAt prints though.

A girl in a cleft toe shoe? I can barely wait till I press the buttons that control her!

On a SONY, 'cause I don't have the choice!

I find this rather, well, funny to be honest. So much emphasis was originally placed upon how much Sony was sucking in regards to exclusive content, valid ridicule at the time mind you, but now suddenly DLC on their "spiffy" titles and random tidbit additions all cries have died down and suddenly "exclusive DLC/Expansions" are meh and inconsequential?

Credit where credit is due at least.
Not pointing fingers at anyone in particular, just an observation I made randomly

I'd share that same point of view if the news of this exclusive DLC had come on the back of a detailed report about how much had been spent to aqquire said DLC (or what the deal was) and the smack talk from the other big company about that - just to make things fair with the other big exclusive DLC news that's been around.

The whole exclusive DLC has yet to prove itself. I love Mass Effect, but since release we've only seen one piece of DLC. GTA's DLC is still up in the air as to what kind of quality it is and when it will hit.

DLC seems to only work for games that just...do it, without trying to take into account publisher contracts and all that nonsense.

Eh, I'm still getting it for PC. If this DLC comes to fruition I can imagine it being either something trophy and home related, or something akin to those "exclusive" player skins you get when you pre-order collector editions of games.

The meat of the game will be identical across all platforms.

the exclusive content is in regards to HOME

you can add railings and items like that around your home to slide around

Kinda related, what's the go on EA's copy protection system for PC games? Because if all their releases are going to be like Spore from now on, it looks like I'll be getting it on console..

Also EatChildren - the Mass Effect DLC isn't even exclusive me-thinks, the PC version got it for free.

Yeah, it did. I don’t know how I slipped up on that, since I own the PC version and not the Xbox360 version.

I guess I was more referring the concept of DLC and over hyping it. One of the big things for Mass Effect, before it came out, was that DLC would fill the time in between ME1 and ME2. Sounded cool in theory, but lets face it; all we’ve got is one mission, with no talk of anything new on the horizon.

I really liked Bring Down The Sky, and I’m sure BioWare have more in the works, but releasing new DLC once every blue moon (and then some) isn’t really “filling the gap” and its not a good selling point.

If you want a shining example of what DLC should be like, check out the updates for Burnout Paradise. Non-exclusive, introduces a day-night cycle, motorbikes, new challenges, new online game modes, new islands in the future, and the best part - all for free.

Bless you Criterion.
