New Final Fantasy XIII details emerge

PS3 News | Demo may be longer than the movie it's packaged with.
Motomu Toriyama, the director of the upcoming RPG for Playstation 3 and Xbox 360, Final Fantasy XIII, has revealed further details regarding the game in an interview with Famitsu PS3.

In the interview, Toriyama talked about the demo of the game which will be packaged with the Blu-Ray release of Final Fantasy VII Advent Children. He revealed that the demo will cover the opening and prologue of Final Fantasy XIII, to allow players to come to understand the world of Cocoon. He also mentioned that he thought the demo would be longer than Advent Children (itself a hundred minute film), and that players would be able to control not only the heroine Lightning, but the mysterious blonde male character who has appeared in several of the game's trailers. Toriyama also dropped further hints regarding this character, saying that his name is weather-based (like Lightning's), and that his tattoo is not actually a tattoo.

Toriyama also delved a little into the actual game, commenting that there is no 'main character', rather multiple perspectives from several characters which the player will experience. This theme will be followed through with the battle system, which he explained to be party-based, as opposed to the single-character control of Final Fantasy XII.

So... the opening cutscene and maybe a battle?

Argh, I already bought the DVD... but the FF XIII demo may just be enough of an incentive to upgrade to the blu-ray version. This is exactly why I won't buy DVDs any more icon_wink.gif

The battle system sounds very similar to the recent Tales games. If they follow that battle system, it'll be great fun, as i loved ToS battle system.
