Fallout 3 passes classification

PS3 News | Post-apocalyptic title rated MA 15+.
The Australian Office of Film and Literature Classification has officially classified Fallout 3. Bethesda's anticipated role-playing game has earned a MA 15+ rating.

The OFLC's additional consumer advice for Fallout 3 includes strong violence, drug references and coarse language.

After Bethesda's RPG was refused classification by the OFLC last month, it was unclear whether the post-apocalyptic title would ever make it to Australia. But last Monday, it was reported that game retailers had been informed an edited version of Fallout 3 would be making its way onto store shelves. Those rumours appear to have been correct.

It is not yet fully clear what modifications have been made to the Australian version of Fallout 3. Any edits, however, will have addressed the issues in the OFLC's last report, which refused the game classification.

Still, I think importing will be a wiser option. I don't like knowing that i'm not getting the experience that the developers intended. I just feel cheated.

@element465: Especially if you're going to pay $100+

100+ , isnt that for the collectors edition? The only thing stopping me from getting this game is the missing multiplayer. It could have been a kind of promising MMO.

I'll be importing. Its not like i was ever going to play an edited version on the PC anyway. I'll only buy the AU version if theres a patch of some description which returns it to its original state.

...But you realise that if everyone imported it would be the death of the Australian games industry?

Companies need to see australian sales charts to know we're worth putting there effort into.

tbh, i'd rather import and play the game as intended. if they cared, they'd petition the government to change our redundant laws.

I'd like to know what was edited. Still, I think I should preorder from playasia.

The game is set for Australian release on October 17, 2008... the US version however is set for October 7, 2008. So i may have to import my copy.

I'm importing for sure! Who knows, if enough of us do it maybe game retailers in Aus will get the message and stop ripping us off with such outrageously high prices!!

Oh come on. This is GTA IV all over again.

There will heaps of comments like "oh noes I be importing" but its probably something so redudant to gameplay (such as a renamed object) I couldn't give a crap. If they took out shooting or took out the ability to walk (things that need to be in the game for it to work) then I'll have a problem.

But everyone's huge thing with "needing" to import it, Sure it may be cheaper, but then theres postage and waiting for it. I'd rather go to the shops and buy it (Big W may have it cheap) and save the hassle of mucking around trying to get a game which is released here, but has minor changes.

When GTA IV was released, people realised that the cuts were minor (wow, sex was censored omfg gonna kill everything) people kinda ignored it.

Anyways, I'm glad it passed.

P.S. Importing is one of the reasons for an Australian price rise. Not the reason, just a reason.

Importing will harm local sales, and there's no easy way to monitor how many people are importing, so to an uninformed observer of the industry, it would appear videogames are losing popularity, selling less, and are not worth putting money into.

Theorise a massive increase in the percentage o people who import a majority of their games here:

Local retailers will have less customers, and less sales of videogames, meaning price rises. Now of course, people here would still be buying games, from foreign stores, online, but keeping track of the sales to every australian from online stores all over the world is far from feasible, so rather than people seeing 2 lists, one of local sales, declining, and one of imports, rising, there will only be a chart showing a decrease in the sales of games in Australia.

I don't disagree with importing, I do it myself, and will probably try my luck doing it with Fallout 3 on PC, as its not like you get anything additional for the extra cash paid here, but it doesn't help the local industry, and won't make local businesses think "Oh hey, these folks on the internet are importing their games instead of buying them locally, we should lower our prices 'n' stuff lolz", they'll just see that sales are going down, meaning they don't have to buy as much stock anymore to keep up with demand, and unit prices will rise.

Although this is good news I am still Importing. Gotta play the game as it was meant to be played.

TBH I don't give a damn about the extortionists we call distributors here in Australia. To me importing means more sales and more money for the actual developers and publishers.

Exactly, the developers and publishers get the same money, so they don't care; surely it doesn't matter if local businesses lose money and therefore jack up the prices, because that would cause more people to import, making importing prices cheaper and expanding those websites to offer better services. It's just a slow transition, far as I can see.

I know the changes will be minor (the reasons for banning were rather minor) I mainly imported because well... I don't really know. I guess it's more a stand against the video game situation in Australia, in my opinion **** it. The distribution and sales can die here, we'll still get our games.

Um, hardly. It might mean the death of the reselling middlemen, but how does it affect gamers or game developers? Cut out EB, I say! icon_wink.gif

As for me, I'll import if they've cut anything significant. If the change is just using the word "mophrine" instead of "morphine", I'm ok with buying here.

On 360? Pretty sure it'd be region locked. If you're getting it on PC you can disregard this post though.

Yup, it is region locked.
