E3 2008: EA publishing Rage

PS3 News | We wonder if Activision is angry?

During its E3 press conference today EA announced that they have teamed up with id Software and they will be publishing Rage, the new IP that id announced a few months back.

Rage utilises id's Tech 5 technology and will apparently contain a whole new level of realism. "Rage represents a new direction for our games," said Todd Hollenshead, CEO of id Software. "Rage is a shooter unlike any other, developed on our cutting edge new technology, and built to the exacting standards id is famous for. We're excited to have the support of EA Partners to launch Rage on the world."

"The Rage publishing deal is the epitome of EA Partners' mission: Provide the world's best developers with access to the world's best publishing resources," said David DeMartini, senior vice president and general manager of EA Partners.

The concept is really confusing me. Is it an FPS or a racing game? At some points it seems like a Doom styled FPS and then at other points in the videos its a Motorstorm themed race. I don't really see the two going together that well? I'm assured id will pull something huge off though

This is a big Coup for EA - or has Activision - Blizzard changed their studio support strategy after the merger .... we will have to wait and see .. wonder who will publish Doom 4
