Digital Extremes helping out with PS3 version of BioShock

PS3 News | Game also set to appear at E3.
We know that two more BioShock games are in the pipeline, that Pirates of the Caribbean director Gore Verbinski is helming the big-screen adaptation and that a PlayStation 3 version of the FPS RPG is in the works. The latest BioShock news, according to CVG, is that Dark Sector developer Digital Extremes has been roped in to assist on the PlayStation 3 version of the game.

2K Games are still handling core development duties, but Digital Extremes has been called in to ensure that BioShock runs silky smooth on the PlayStation 3 hardware.

"By partnering with Digital Extremes, 2K Games is delivering a fully optimized experience that takes advantage of the PlayStation 3," 2K President Christoph Hartmann said.

According to Digital Extremes boss James Schmalz, the decision to collaborate on the project was very easy to make. "When 2K approached us to assist with development on BioShock for the PlayStation 3, it was a no-brainer," he said. "You really can't ask for a more exciting, technically impressive world to work in than Rapture, and the incredible knowledge and talent between the 2K studios and our team at Digital Extremes is unprecedented.

"The collaboration on this project will make the PlayStation 3 sing with Big Daddy goodness and Little Sister 'thank you's'," Schmalz concluded.

In further news, CVG are also reporting that the PlayStation 3 version of BioShock will make an appearance at E3, along with other 2K titles Borderlands, Civilization IV: Colonization, NBA 2K9 and NHL 2K9.
