Soul Calibur IV to feature an additional Star Wars character

PS3 News | The Force is strong with this one.
According to GameSpot, Namco has revealed that the Secret Apprentice - the main character from the upcoming LucasArts title Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, will be joining the already announced Force wielding heavyweights Yoda (exclusive to Xbox 360 version) and Darth Vader (exclusive to PlayStation 3) in the title.

Players won't have to wait much longer to engage in heated lightsaber-on-lightsaber duels with their mates, with the game due out in Australia at the end of next month.

They might as well add all the Star Wars main characters and call it Namco vs Lucas Arts.

Wow thats a really cool addition, I can't wait to see all the cool combos you will be able to pull off with him.

what a horrible idea.

Am I the only one that's disappointed that they didn't use Guybrush Threepwood as a character in this game?

What on earth happened to this series? Namco have lost the plot.

I was hoping for Han...

i would rather they make an all out Star Wars fighter using the SC engine, or something.

I've never got around to playing any of the Soul Calibur sequels, but I loved the original on my Dreamcast. As Cap said, it really seems to have lost its way, Namco seeming to lose confidence in their ability to create their own compelling characters.

A true Star Wars fighter based on SC would be awesome.

Lost their way? I really disagree. I'm sure there will be new original SC characters and the only reason why Namco is adding these bonus characters in all their games is to attract attention from people who haven't played Soul Calibur before.

This strategy certainly worked for me because I picked up Soul Calibur 2 on Xbox because I heard Spawn was in it and I've been a fan of the series ever since. I certainly have no quarrells with them adding in a couple of non SC characters... there are only three of them after all icon_confused.gif

i wondered if anyone was going to mention MoTK.

i was gonna say something about it, but figured the "using the SC Engine" would've cleared it up.

MoTK was bad.

^ Based on SC as Obs was suggesting.

Groovy: true, but it all just seems incredibly gimmicky.

Sc lost its plot back with SCII, what with Necrid, Spawn, Heihachi and Link all appearing. Vader, Yoda and whats-his-name-from-whats-that-game don't really change anything.

The addition of gimmick characters, especially ones like Darth Vader, is a surefire way to grab front page news on any gaming website.Free advertising....

Yeah I can understand that. However I don't think the Star Wars characters will be part of the story or anything? So in the end of the day I doubt it will really effect the quality of the game - if they did intergrate them into the story of SC then I would start to doubt their addition icon_razz.gif

SCIII was a step in the wrong direction. Though it was a solid fighter, it lost the appeal of many of the hardcore fans.

SCIV looks a lot more like SCII does, which is good to see because SCII was fantastic on a competetive and casual level.

The whole 'bonus character' crap really doesn't phase me much.

If that was true where is guybrush threepwood? Now THAT would be a bonus character.

To me, the game still looks great, and the addition of cheap cross-promotion charaters doesn't change this. Can't wait.

It's a smart move on their part, you'll have tonnes of SW fans picking this game regardless if they like fighters or not.
