Itagaki - Ninja Gaiden Sigma was no good

PS3 News | We didn't mind it.
Speaking in an interview with CVG Tomonobu Itagaki, the man responsible for the Ninja Gaiden and DOA series has revealed that Ninja Gaiden II will be the last game in the series, along with launching a scathing attack at Ninja Gaiden Sigma in the process.

Ninja Gaiden Sigma was released last year and we were quite fond it it, but Itagaki won't even sign copies of the game. He even makes the comment that the game "was no good". He elaborated, by explaining, "all you need to do is play Ninja Gaiden II and then try and play Sigma afterward,s and you'll see why. Despite the fact that it's on a 'next-generation' console there's no evolution whatsoever. That was made not by me, but one of my sub-ordinates who basically tried to copy the success of Ninja Gaiden."

If you're hoping to take Itagaki up on the offer and own a PlayStation 3 then you're out of luck, with the man reaffirming that NG2 is Xbox 360 exclusive. In fact, it seems Itagaki is pretty much done with Ninja Gaiden after Ninja Gaiden II is released, commenting that he has "done everything (he) wanted to accomplish with this franchise and all of (his) closest colleagues are satisfied and agree that we've done as much as we can with it."

This guy seems like a bit of a douchebag, trash talking his own employees and franchise. I'm excited for NG2, but I wish the guy making it wasn't such a dick.

From memory he wasn't keen on the idea of a touched-up port of NG from the beginning, but even so he still knew that's what Sigma was going to be. Which is what he has described.
I'd like to think maybe something was lost in translation, but he's just coming off as a dick here.

Correction. He likes to touch ass and get lawsuits filed against him.

The main is a total dick and his games are odd. But they are sure fun to play.

To be fair - he's upset about a game that was designed for last-gen consoles getting ported to next-gen consoles with no new additions to the gameplay etc. Itagaki has always been very, uh, pedantic.. I don't think there's anything wrong with self criticism (it's better than bagging out a rival).

i think it should be next week, hey if not you could always just make an american XBOX live account (considering the PATHETIC amount of content we have in comparison) - shame on you microsoft australia.

i think NG 1 was awsome and i think that NG 2 is gonna be awesomer.

Itagaki is the biggest douchenozzle in the industry, but at least he's talented. I don't quite see what he's getting at here, though, because Ninja Gaiden Sigma was a port from the very beginning. The whole plan was to pretty up the graphics and add in a couple of extras so people without Xboxes could play Ninja Gaiden. The reason there's no evolution is because there was never meant to be.

^And thats what he's getting at. From what I remember Itagaki was against the port from the beginning, hence why he had nothing to do with it. Sounds like he's still sour that the port ever happened.

And yeah the guy dose come across as quite a douche but in the end he makes some good games and his interviews/comments are nearly always good for a laugh
