Killzone 2 delayed due to PS3 shooter overload

PS3 News | Purely a managerial decision
In an post on the PlayStation Blog, SCEA’s Ron Eagle explained that Killzone 2 was delayed due to a shooter heavy release schedule later in the year.

He explained that, "there is nothing wrong or causing a delay to the development of the title. We had to look at the fall calendar with SOCOM, LittleBigPlanet, MotorStorm: Pacific Rift, Resistance 2, plus some PSN titles and make a decision where each game should come out. Killzone 2 was moved to Feb 2009 to make sure we didn’t have three shooters in the marketplace competing for retail dollars during the same holiday season."

Killzone 2 is now targeting a release window in February 2009.

I'd rather it come out in February, solely so I can focus on it exclusively and not juggle it with every other game coming out this christmas.

All I know is when this game reaches my hands, my face will explode.

I wonder if Microsoft will schedule anything (Alan Wake, maybe) to compete with Killzone 2 in Feb, or if they will just ignore it. Highly anticipating the game.

Maybe they should have had their act together so they could release it two months BEFORE the Christmas overload.

Sony has shooters coming as early as September (SOCOM Confrontation), to release it any earlier than that would lose sales.

Soooo... what exactly does this game have going for it other than great looking visuals?

I never got to play the first one but this one definitely looks worth a go.

big bag full of NOTHING

just like:

HAZE
SOCOM
RESISTANCE 2 (posibly the worst FPS ever made).

imo - get ready for Brothers In Arms: Hells Highway (august)

It's a pity, I want to buy a PS3 for this and MGS4. I loved the first Killzone, despite the mediocre reviews which unfairly compared it to Halo.

I wonder if it's because it will compete with other titles on PS3, or if they know that GoW2 will slaughter it on metacritic?

<sarcasm>I mean, yeah the PS3 has too many unique IP's and it's confusing as to which ones to buy.</sarcasm>

No matter what sort of spin Sony put on things, there are still more 360's out there and the 360 has a better software library. The PS3 needs it's Sony-specific IP's to actually be released, not just promised then delayed over and over again. (Gran Turismo on PSP? Home? Little Big Planet?). I'll buy one when there are good games on the shelves, not just in development.

This too me sounds like they're worried of the quality of the game compared to the others launching. With no disrespect to anyone who enjoyed the first killzone but I couldnt give to stuffs about killzone 2. After the whole CG video they did and all the other in house Sony FPS games its totaly not on my radar.

^I've heard GREAT things about max payne 3.Basically it's the max payne we know and love, with the addition of VEHICLES!

How awesome is that?!

From reading the 1up preview this game doesn't seem like the be all and end all of shooters. The impression I got was that its a really pretty, kind of averge shooter.

^ And that's pretty much all I've been getting from the gameplay vids too. The hype for this game is going to lead to dangerous things I think.

I won't fault the game for looking as incredible as it does, but come on, you've got to DO something with that. My interest for vanilla shooters died out a long time ago.

FPS games as a whole really need a kick in the teeth cause honestly they're getting kinda stale. I mean occasionly you'll get something rad but its rare.

I don't expect it to re-invent the wheel, I'm actually looking forward to a good PS3 showcase game and would probably accept this as it is. As long as it's not a step back from the 1st game (gameplay-wise) it should still be a lot of fun.
I'm actually getting sick of the gimmicky FPS's (and 3rd person games too), adding a "unique gameplay element", and then making every encounter dependant on using it. I mean Halo 3 and COD 4 are both generic FPS's but done so well that you really don't mind.
