Prototype to be edited for Australia

PS3 News | Another one?
With the recent confirmation that Australians would be playing a different version of Grand Theft Auto IV than everyone else around the world, we thought the bad news about cut games was over for awhile, but alas, it seems not.

Speaking to Eurogamer, Radical Entertainment has stated that they will be working hard to ensure that Prototype will be released in Australia.

Radical's marketing director Chris Hansell stated "We're working really closely with the German office and we've had multiple meetings with the USK. As you can imagine that was a lot of work to get it through the German market but we take it very seriously."

"They've seen it a number of times and we're making very detailed analysis of the particular elements we need to change and tweak and we're always watching the other titles and what they have to change. It's a large job for us to do, I won't lie. It's a challenge that we've said we would tackle and take on."

Apparantly Radical Entertainment has already toned down ragdoll physics on dead bodies, levels of blood and dismemberment and also has a "long list" of changes and tweaks to be implemented. This is the first we've heard about Prototype being cut. PALGN contacted local publisher Vivendi for comment, but we haven't heard back yet. We'll let you know when we do.

Hmm hopefully the changes arn't too big from the original or this might have to be imported as well

Not going to be out for a few more months but at least I can import like with GTA4 now that I have a credit card. This game looks very promising if they weave a decent story through it.

Another PS3 import for me then.

I just watched the trailer for this on internode and after reading this I am quite disappointed. If they need to tone down the actual gameplay then its not really worth it is it? At least with gta4, it's a videoclip that's cut (right?) won't affect gameplay.

I'd rather they didn't bother editing gameplay just to squeeze it into australia's classification. I'd rather import and enjoy the game like the rest of the world will.

Stuff importing, just not going to bother buying it now.

even if they do town down the violence for Aus im assuming we can still expect "Conan" and "Viking battle for Asgard" levels of blood and decapitation so i don't think the violence is going to take a huge hit.

Im not sure if i understand the meaning of "toned down ragdoll physics" i mean how do you tone down ragdolls? maybe the NPCs need to take a direct hit or something before ragdolling as opposed to maybe just being winged by some debris?

as long as all the powers are intact and we still get a healthy dose of violence im happy.

Oh sigh. This is beginning to get ridiculous. In the fullness of time We WILL get a proper rating system (once the silverhaired farts in office realise that a whole generation of gamers is old enough to vote) But for now its a pain in the arse! Tweaking ragdoll physics so corpses don't look so violently tossed around? I hope our version pushes the ratings limit. I'd hate to suffer like NZ has with OUR GTA and recieve a neutered German version!

Reading this makes me sad. It’s a reflection of just how primitive we are.

Reading this makes me want to snap the OFLC in half.

In case nobody noticed but me, the massive amounts of blood spray when you run someone over in GTA IV is not in the Australian version.

Great, another crippled version bites the dust. If I was interested in playing this game, I would import it from the US.

Further proof that the government believes that only children play computer games.

I'll be honest, for GTA I didn't care too much since it's a fictional game (as opposed to sci-fi), so suspension of disbelief isn't essential.

But for a Sci Fi game like Prototype, cutting these effects out will seriously lessen immersion in the game.

Now it's already on my import list.

And yet, when you pop a headshot in the middle of a firefight there's a goodly sized puff of claret. Go figure icon_sad.gif
