More Darkness in the future?

PS3 Rumour | Jackie Estacado could make a return to consoles in the future.
Behind the cosplay, the Q&A panels and the giddy superhero loving geeks frothing at the mouth over the latest Dark Knight trailer, the New York Comic Con has revealed some interesting tidbits of gaming news.

While much of the videogaming news was centred around the DC comics licensing of Gears of War 2 and Prototype, a subtle hint was also dropped about a sequel to a popular comic book-based videogame - The Darkness.

During a panel at NYCC today, Top Cow president Matt Hawkins was probed about the possibility of a sequel to the adventures of anti-hero Jackie Estacado.

Hawkins coyly trailed off in a suggestive manner with, "I can't announce there's going to be another game, but…"

While he would not confirm that another Darkness title was in the works, he did confirm that two other Top Cow properties would be receiving the videogame treatment - those being Witchblade and Hunter/Killer.

According to Eurogamer, he said

"We can't say 'Darkness' and 'videogame sequel' in the same sentence. So: 'Darkness.' Wink. 'Sequel,'"

Sweet sugar, I hope it does come out - the first game gave me countless hours of fun.

A sequel has been rumoured for months. Nice to hear bigger hints for it though.

Mad, loved the first but it felt too short, once I finished it there was not much I could do so hopefully if they do make it they can make it longer or better yet free-roam or something like that...

Hopefully they just focus on the singleplayer and forget the MP altogether this time. A Longer story mode would be perfect, the story/acting/gameplay was spot on. The comic leaves heaps of room for at least a couple more games, hopefully Angelus is involved this time.

Hopefully Starbreeze continue to be behind the franchise (if it becomes one) too. While I haven't played the original, I have always wanted to and it's one of the four games from last year that I absolutely must have at some point; Eternal Sonata, Call of Duty 4 and Assassin's Creed being the other three.

What's the deal with Starbreeze and their remake of Riddick?

The remake has been cancelled, they are making a new Riddick game.

News to me. I thought Assault on Dark Athena (or whatever it's called) was a remake with an extended portion?

So now it's a completely new game?

I don't know whether to be thrilled or disappointed by this news. I'd have preferred if Starbreeze continued to work on original titles rather than revisit their past games but on the other hand, I've got every reason to expect they'll deliver regardless.

I should probably get around to completing The Darkness. Not too sure why I suddenly stopped. I'll get on that tonight.

I suddenly stopped too, I think I got stuck... not difficulty suck, just no idea where to go next stuck

I will be grabbing the original Darkness in the coming months. Seeing as its currently borderline $40 clams i will be happy with that price. Was always interested in this title, just could never justify a RRP purchase in its early days.

Great. The original was my GOTY. Can't wait for this one.

I haven't managed to do that yet. You could always check your journal. Objectives are always listed in there aren't they?

You're in for a treat. I was also late to the party with this game and I've been kicking myself for waiting so long. If you liked Riddick, you'll like this. If you haven't played Riddick, get on it ASAP. That goes for everyone.

Nope, I checked my journal, I just don't know how to get anywhere

Yep, it was in the Official 360 Magazine for some country. They were doing a top 100 games of 2008 list, and they said that when they enquired about Riddick, they were told it is now a full sequel.

I lost my objective too! I loaded he game one day after a couple of weeks break had no idea what to do. Checked the journal and found they named a location I couldn't find/recognise. Didn't stop me looking though icon_doh.gif (imo using the subway system as a hub made for an very incoherent city.)

Mind you losing the goal is not an uncommon a scenario for me, I just felt like telling Puddingfork (and easily lost lurkers) they are not alone.

I think the most frustrating time was with Starfox Adventures. I finished a goal and one of the NPCs told me to "go through such and such door" just before I saved. When I loaded the next week I thought "Its a relatively small world why not just try the doors" So I do a loop of the of AFAIK the entire gameworld trying every door and talking to every character. No good, five or six hours later and I'm back where I started without finding a single new door, area, item or line of dialog. icon_wall.gif
