PlayStation Store updated

PS3 News | A day late, but worth it.
After experiencing some technical difficulties yesterday, Sony finally updated the Australian PlayStation Store early this morning.

This week, PlayStation 3 owners can avoid lining up at the counter and download Gran Turismo 5: Prologue for $59.95, or kick back and relax with a round of Reel Fishing from the Classics range for $8.45. New Turok maps are now available for $4.95, as well as the free Unreal Tournament 3 maps we reported about yesterday. Continuing with the game expansions is the new Eye of Judgement: Biolith Rebellion Set 2 for $15.95, and a free demo of UEFA Euro 2008. Finally, trailers for Gran Turismo 5: Prologue, Everybody’s Golf: Would Tour and Eye of Judgement have also been added.

Interestingly, there’s also a notice from Sony that the PlayStation Store will receive a facelift in the next few weeks, so the next time you log on you may find things looking more different than usual.

Special thanks to forum member Mipac for the heads up.

Some people don't like having discs all over the place. Also Sony can't sell it online any cheaper because they'll upset the large department stores. Especially in the US there was an uproar when they looked into trying to sell Warhawk cheaper online. Walmart basically told Sony they wouldn't stock their products unless it was the same price online because they would lose sales. As a lot of Sony's sales still come through the disc based versions, they had to keep the price the same online to keep Walmart happy.

On a side note - im beginning to think $50 isn't too bad for a GT5 demo. If it provides 10 hours of play then it'd be worth it.

And has anyone tried Reel Fishing? Is it an old PSone game or actually a new PSN game.

Thats bull since the whole point of digital distribution is that its cheaper. Steam is a good example, with the exception of a few cases, most times its only half price of the retail prices (the only exception im aware of is when EA requested Steam to up the price of Call of Duty 4 for Australians)

Yep i would not want to waste my bandwidth for a digital copy, more expensive than can be bought in physical media. The digital copy cant be sold, and has no manual, box or disc + you waste bandwidth. Not worth it at all.

Warhawk was $49.95 on the PSN and $99.95 retail. So why isnt GT5 cheaper?

if you dont like the price dont get it.

It was due to pressure from retail. After they sold Warhawk cheaper on the store, some retailers decided not to sell the game and sent them back to Sony.

This time Sony were forced to enter an agreement where they sold it on the store for the RRP. I'm sure they are just as pissed about it as you and me.

I D/L it still. Love the convenience of having it on the HDD.

I don't see a sony employee holding a gun to your head forcing you to buy the PSN version... do you?

It is locked to the account you bought it on, just like any other Playstation Store game.
