MotorStorm 2 trailer released

PS3 News | Lush.
After weeks dealing with small little snippets about MotorStorm 2, Sony has officially unveiled a trailer for the game on the SCEA Blog.

The first release trailer is completely CGI and confirms that the second title will be set in the tropics, the new monster trucks are also shown and even though we've been burned by target footage of MotorStorm before, the sight of seeing a motorbike jump over a monster truck off a jump has us rather excited.

Unlike the first title, there will be 16 tracks in MotorStorm 2, and all the vehicle classes from the first title will return. The game will also support sixteen players online and split screen multiplayer for up to four players.

I think they might actually equal the Motorstorm 2 CGI trailer (at least, in many aspects, maybe not 100% exactly the same).

Lets actually look at it.

First off, character models. Here is a close-up shot of a featured character in the Motorstorm 2 trailer.

It is good detail, but not beyond video game quality. Better than the originally Motorstorm, but you would expect that 18 months later, and this is the level of detail I was expecting from Motorstorm 2.

Next, the way vehicles interact with each other. At 0:56, you see a monster truck's wheel come slamming down on top of a buggy. If this was an impossible, over the top CGI trailer, the buggy would shatter into a million finely detailed pieces. However, from what I could see, all that happens is the bonnet is pushed down a bit and a wheel falls off. Very similar to the original Motorstorm. At 0:46, you see two buggies slam into each other. Again, there is no outrageous amount of destruction, just some sparks flying and the buggies bounce off each other and continue forward. This type of thing was already in Motorstorm, and I don't see why it wouldn't be even more improved in Motorstorm 2.

Probably the most impressive thing from this demo was vehicle physics. Cars going on 2 wheels, dirtbikes doing a wheelie, etc etc. The vehicle physics in the original Motorstorm were already great, and from watching this trailer, the trailer only seems like a reasonable upgrade on the Motorstorm physics system.

Also, when the truck ploughs through the wooden tower, the tower does not shatter incredibly realistically. Pay close attention to it the second the logs cover the path, at 1:03. They look to me like they are reacting the same way a destroyed shack's physics in the original Motorstorm reacted. Again, very likely that this is just like it will be in the final game.

Things like world detail are pretty stunning, although I don't think a Sony owned PS3 team is going to have any trouble making some incredible looking jungle scenery that lives up to the trailer.

I don't think this CGI trailer is pushing it beyond unrealistic, and I believe that Motorstorm 2 can definetely live up to the trailer.

Oh and props to Evolution Studios to again ending the trailer with a dirtbike rider about to be annihilated icon_biggrin.gif

Don't get ahead of yourself there... you're acting like this target render is representative of the final product. I agree that they've got talent on their side, just don't go counting your ATVs before the race has finished icon_wink.gif

Oh I'm not implying to take this CGI trailer as gospel lol, I know things could go either way. My point is that after doing a bit of freeze framing and taking a close look at key scenes in the Motorstorm 2 trailer, that this CGI trailer is much closer to having realistic and achievable gameplay in it, while the original Motorstorm CGI was just out of this world crazy.
