PS3 to get budget range in Japan

PS3 News | Probably coming to other territories soon.
IGN is reporting that Sony Japan will be launching an official budget range of PlayStation 3 games late next month.

Included in the line-up are Resistance: Fall of Man, Ridge Racer 7, Ninja Gaiden Sigma, FolksSoul and Gundam: Target in Sight. The games will be priced at 3,800 yen (AU 39.20 / GBP 18) and will be available on the 18th of March.

This information comes from Japanese retailers rather than Sony.

When contacted by GamesIndustry.biz about the availability of such a range in Europe, Sony stated that they "have introduced a Platinum range of best-selling titles for all of our platforms to date, and it is likely that we will do so in the future for PS3. However, no decisions have yet been made on timing or line-up."

Well, if true, that sounds pretty good. That should equate to a $50 price point in Australia I would expect, and it's a decent range to start off with.

I'm guessing $60.PS2 games which were usually $100 were $50 when platinum.

It sucks how platinum used to mean a game had sold a certain amount of copies but now it has basicaly degraded to what is too old to be able to sell at full retail

^ Does it really matter that much? Either way it still means a cheaper price for the consumer, and that can only be a good thing.

I doubt we'll be seeing this anytime soon. Remember that we only got the PS3 a realtively short time ago compared to Japan and the US.

Maybe, JUST maybe they make it so ugly so you will fork out more cash for the non-platinum version. icon_wink.gif

I must be messed in the head, as I don't mind those PS3 platinum covers. Which makes me ashamed, as I avoid them like the plague. I think I like the yellow.

Just got an email from play-asia today showing their "platinum (the best) range. $43 per game, without postage, sounds about right.
