Based on a fact sheet passed on to Kotaku by an anonymous tipster, the Climax developed PSP prequel to Konami's quality horror series is apparently geared for a PS2 port, to be helmed by the same production entities for a March 2008 release.
Kotaku goes on to note that while there is as yet no official confirmation from either Konami or Climax Studios on the possibility of such a port, the frontpage "Welcome to the Climax Website" blurb of Climax's homepage reveals that they are indeed working on another "unannounced title for Konami". Whether there is any connection with the Origins PS2 port rumour remains to be seen.
While losing a PSP exclusive game for the sake of taking advantage of the profitable possibilities of the far more far-reaching PS2 owning audience is frowned upon by fans, one can only hope that such a move brings with it some sort of bonuses and/or improvements. Joining the ranks of Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories, Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror, Twisted Metal: Head On, and the like, at least Origins will be in somewhat good ported company.
In any case, PSP owners should (as always) take this rumour with a grain of salt, and not be swayed from a potential purchase for the recently released Silent Hill instalment. And just in case they are, expect a review of the (tentatively) PSP exclusive Origins on PALGN soon.
