Silent Hill Origins for PS2?

PS2 Rumour | Another PSP exclusive could be up for a port.
With the PlayStation Portable exclusive game having barely had time for a breather, rumours already abound that Silent Hill Origins may be next in line for a PlayStation 2 port treatment.

Based on a fact sheet passed on to Kotaku by an anonymous tipster, the Climax developed PSP prequel to Konami's quality horror series is apparently geared for a PS2 port, to be helmed by the same production entities for a March 2008 release.

Kotaku goes on to note that while there is as yet no official confirmation from either Konami or Climax Studios on the possibility of such a port, the frontpage "Welcome to the Climax Website" blurb of Climax's homepage reveals that they are indeed working on another "unannounced title for Konami". Whether there is any connection with the Origins PS2 port rumour remains to be seen.

While losing a PSP exclusive game for the sake of taking advantage of the profitable possibilities of the far more far-reaching PS2 owning audience is frowned upon by fans, one can only hope that such a move brings with it some sort of bonuses and/or improvements. Joining the ranks of Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories, Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror, Twisted Metal: Head On, and the like, at least Origins will be in somewhat good ported company.

In any case, PSP owners should (as always) take this rumour with a grain of salt, and not be swayed from a potential purchase for the recently released Silent Hill instalment. And just in case they are, expect a review of the (tentatively) PSP exclusive Origins on PALGN soon.

Has Origins been released in Aus yet? I know it was meant to come out on the 30th of November, i had it ordered, but i've never recieved a phone call about it, and haven't seen it on any shelves in other stores.
Not bothered about the idea of a PS2 port. On a silent hill forum i belong to, there has been much bitc... complaining about it being a PSP exclusive, with people saying they don't want to have to buy a PSP for just the one title. But there also the members that complain about having to buy a PS3/360 for Silent Hill V.

It's a great game, but a bit short. Initially it appears to be quite straightforward, but there is a fair bit of subtext to wade through (how obvious it is to you depends on how familiar you are with Silent Hill). On that note, if you've never played a Silent Hill game before, you're not going to understand what the hell is going on in Origins... although it is good enough to spur you to play the rest of the series.

As for it coming to PS2, I don't mind. More people get to play a great game, but its length will become even more of a problem on a home console (seriously, the game is about 4 hours long).

It's been discontinued in Australia already. My local EB received precisely one copy and it had already sold by the time I went to pick it up. Hence I went straight to JB and picked up their last (possibly only?) copy for the somewhat painful price of $75

(This seems to happen a bit with PSP - reminds me of the old GCN days where some games had to be bought in week one if you wanted to own them at all)

Thankfully, importing this game will be a piece of cake and should only cost ~$50. If I wasn't so impatient this is what I would have done - the AU version is just a stickered European copy anyways...

What do you mean discontinued???

Yeah when I first heard that I did a double take too. ie. "There's enough interest in the franchise to make a fairly decent movie (which even received general cinema distribution locally) and yet the all-new game is not expected to sell?!"

Then I thought about how small the local PSP market must be and it started to make sense... still disappointing if true however.

EDIT: To answer your actual question (doh), the manager of my EB told me it was released and immediately discontinued. Something about lack of pre-orders... (?)

wow, discontinued... Game told me they only got 3 copies but "hopefully (they) would get some more in.."
i don't understand how games can just be discontinued due to lack of pre-orders, but yeah this reminds me of the silent hill compilation that was released in one shipment and then never to be seen again

oh well, another thumbs up to importing this after x-mas
