Patrick Stewart provides voice for Final Fantasy

PS2 News | For PAL FFXII ads to be precise.
Final Fantasy may be more accurately part of the 'final frontier', as Patrick Stewart has been signed on by Square Enix to provide voice work for the upcoming Final Fantasy XII advertisement campaign, in Australia and the UK.

Better known as Star Trek's Captain Jean-Luc Picard and/or the X-Men films' Professor Xavier, this is not the first time the bald British actor has brushed with the medium of video games (or RPGs for that matter) - apart from providing voicework for game adaptations of his acting roles, last year's The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion also saw him in the esteemed role of Emperor Uriel Septim VII.

As part of the advertising campaign, a midnight launch at HMV on London's Oxford Street will also play host to fans having their questions answered and copies of the game signed by executive producer and director Akitoshi Kawazu and Hiroshi Minagawa respectively - not to mention prizes given for the best fan costumes, and limited edition soundtracks and Moogles (!) handed out to the first 100 people who buy the game.

Beginning February 19, the ad campaign hopes to elicit some final interest before the latest instalment of the Final Fantasy series, Final Fantasy XII, is released on the PS2 in PAL territories on February 23. Finally.

I want a limited edition Moogle!

...

To sell for massive profits on eBay.

Besides that, isn't the release of FFXII just around the corner here? Isn't it a little late to be singing people up for voice work?
Unless I'm horribly, thoroughly mistaken - in which case, proceed...

I'm really hyping for it now, my copy arrives Feb. 23rd I think. Gleeeeeeee.

This was confusingly pleasing news, too. All I'll be thinking whilst hearing him is his appearance in Extras.

You got me all excited thier for a second. Patrick Stewart is an excellent choice for voice work. Hopefully someone uploads the ads to the internet because I have a strange tendency to miss gaming advertisements when they are on TV.

Yeah, choosing Patrick Stewart isn't completely random or anything.
