Harmonix moving away from guitar games

PS2 News | Working on new music title.
Since it emerged that Neversoft would be developing future iterations of Guitar Hero, there's been something of a burning question eating away at us: namely, where does that leave original Hero creator Harmonix?

Well, we (sort of) got our answer today, after Harmonix producer Daniel Sussman revealed not quite all to Gamasutra: "We are instead working on a different music game project," explained Sussman, "One that is a bigger and more ambitious endeavour than we felt we could pursue within the bounds of the Guitar Hero franchise."

Bigger and more ambitious than Guitar Hero? Blimey. So, as everything from bongo drums to maracas to tambourines to guitars have been covered by the genre, what could it be? Are we about to see the world's first didgeridoo-based video game? Your guess is as good as ours, but it's certainly one to keep an eye on.

Wow, you've got to hand it to Harmonix. They could have easily done an EA/Ubisoft and shat out game after game from the Guitar Hero franchise and still have turned a easy profit.

Much respect to them for trying something new. I wonder how Activision feels about this though.

Edit: I just realized that the Guitar Hero franchise is still in play thanks to Neversoft. Activision still happy!

Rock Hero?

with Guitar, Bass, Drum and Keyboard peripherals?

^ not to mention Karaoke.

That's the first thing that went through my mind too. They could be pricing themselves out of the market with all those toys though.

It definitely has to be harp hero or recorder hero. It's a logical progression

Harmonix don't own the rights to Guitar Hero so they really had no choice but to do something different. Hopefully they will be able to come up with a worthy successor.

I thought Accordion Hero was the most requested Hero franchise...

Maybe they'll make a Hero Hero, where you have to be the best at being a super hero.

or maybe anti-hero?

This is just getting silly now, but I would buy triangle hero

No way, it's gotta be Cowbell hero. The good news is that Guitar Hero should be perfectly fine with someone else behind the helm.

How about Wii Drum Hero? Bundle a Wii Remote with it. Then you'll have 2 to use as Drum Sticks.

I want an English Guitar Freaks / Drum Mania

Though I do like the Guitar Hero series, the music is meh, not my taste.
