1980s version of Guitar Hero on the way?

PS2 Rumour | Magazine cranks speculation up to eleven.
Just imagine it: an evening spent grinding out the likes of White Wedding, Wheels of Steel, and Love Will Tear Us Apart, before rounding off with an encore of Blondie's Atomic. What are we jibbering incoherently about now, you ask? Why, only the latest rumour that a 1980s themed version of the masterful Guitar Hero is under development at franchise creator Harmonix.

This intriguing piece of speculation originated from a report in US mag Electronic Gaming Monthly, which claimed that a Guitar Hero game, set in the decade that taste forgot, would be appearing during Q2 2007. As it happens, RedOctane was unwilling to comment on the claims, so we're filing this as a rumour for now. The company did teasingly promise that we'd be hearing from them soon, however.

A 1980s themed Guitar Hero isn't such an outrageous idea, either. There has already been an '80s version of Singstar released, which we recall sold rather well. And, with many gamers being old enough to have experienced 1980s music first-hand, its appeal would be potentially broad. Headbands and acid-washed jeans at the ready, chaps.

I think an 80s version would be awesome, it definitely was a decade of over the top guitar solo action, you have bands like motley crue, poison, guns n roses, metallica etc.

Id be keen to get into that, I only hope it is coming out on PS2

except the Smash album was released in 1994, and therefore, not 80s.

This would be extremely cool. Needs INXS.

absolutely awsome idea. 70's and 80's were best times of metal. van halen for sure, eruption would be cool icon_biggrin.gif metallica, hopefully more megadeth and ozzy. im not sure when yngwie malmsteens song deja vu was made but that would be cool. if only steve played for the love of god in the 80s but it was in 1992 when he 1st played it, damn.

i wonder what they could put in extra though? 4 fingered cords! i doubt if its true that it will not have a as big song list as GH2

Eruption would indeed be awesome, but it was released in 1978. I don't care what songs are on it, I just want it. I've already beaten GH2 on Expert, I need something new.

Van Halen, anyone? Imagine if they brought out a Keytar Hero so we could play VH - Jump. Damn that would be AWSHUM.

I'd love to see GH go down the path of Singstar and have a set brought out every once in a while.

The Offspring's self titled debut came out in '89, only on Vinyl. It was later re-released on CD in '95.

Great song but it's not exactly filled with enough guitar to make interesting to play. How about The Meaning of Life, Bad Habit or All I Want if you want some Offspring songs ideal for Guitar Hero? icon_cool.gif

Aerosmith and Def Leppard would also add some magic.
