Tomb Raider has gone gold...

PS2 News | ...but when will it be out?
Eidos has confirmed that complete or not, the game is finished and is in production, probably as we speak.

US stores can expect to receive shipments of the game this weekend, in time for a Monday release but it appears that the PAL market has been temporarily overlooked in order to supply the States.

So the game is indeed done and dusted. All that needs to be done now is enough copies manufactured for the European and Australian markets.

As it stands right now, the game will NOT be out this Friday (20th) in Europe but rather the following week, or after that.

I'm really looking forward to this game. Or maybe I should clarify and say that I'm really hoping this game is GOOD. I'm a huge fan or the Prince of Persia style Run, Jump, Swing and Climb style games (REALLY looking forward to Sands of Time) but I haven't enjoyed a Tomb Raider title since the First. I've only played quite a bit of number 2 and a little of three, and I just wasn't having as much fun.

Maybe it was just the initial experience of seeing Tomb Raider accelerated by the 3DFx chip that created such a good first impression?

Tomb Raider 2 was and still is one of my all-time favourite games. An absolute joy to play through, and to me it's a classic. It pretty much had it all - tention, decent AI, neat graphics, incredible level design, clever puzzles and that sweet-soft voice of Lara. You can't beat that.

I'd compare to Half-Life, just in a different setting and a different genre.

AoD, on the other hand... I'm not sure. I don't expect to get that nostalgic feeling that I want. Afterall this is next-gen Lara, is it not? If it's anything like the two previous ones it's a no-no purchase, but considering that they've re-built the whole game and sort of started from scratch, it could positively surprise me. Fingers crossed.

Hmm, there was just something about the control scheme and the boating sections that left a bad taste in my mouth with number 2. It just felt quite different, and I never took to it like I did the first one. Still, there's hope for AOD, so fingers are crossed.
