Final Fantasy XII for PAL in early 2007

PS2 News | Final Final Fantasy for PS2.
The epic, long-awaited RPG Final Fantasy XII has finally been marked with a release window for PAL territories. Set to arrive in early 2007, FFXII marks the end of the PS2 generation of Final Fantasy games, and almost acts as a last hurrah for the PS2 as a whole. By this time the PS3 will have been released in North America and Japan for several months, and will probably see a release in Europe and Australia within weeks of FFXII hitting the shelves.

John Yamamoto, President and CEO of Square Enix Ltd. spoke of the occasion personally: “We are very excited to be bringing Final Fantasy XII to Europe and PAL territories next year. The game has been a massive success in Japan and looks set to become one of the crowning glories of PlayStation 2.”

The first "real" Final Fantasy title since FFX was released over 4 years ago, FFXII looks set to bring the gaming world to a halt, as traditional with the series. This includes you, World of Warcraft. FFXII has already been out in Japan since early 2006, and received a rare 40/40 score from famous Japanese gaming publication Famitsu. It certainly looks promising, and with the PAL release announcement and imminent North American release on October 31, PALGN is sure to bring you all the info as soon as it comes. For those currently unfamiliar with the details, get started with the images in the Media Panel and look out for the preview, coming soon!

Next year? So typical.

Is that before or after the PS3 comming out here?

Haven't played a FF since VIII. Hated the random encounter system.

This version sounds much better if you can avoid random encounters.

Anyone played an import version?

This would be one of the main reasons why i got my ps2 chipped. Seriously sony must really love us icon_smile.gif

PAL territories have to wait excess time before recieving PS3, so this doesn't really surprise me.
Hopefully with Square-Enix realising the technology to do an accurate NTSC-to-PAL transfer, we will get a version on par with the NTSC version.

*Sigh* It's a hard knock life for us PALies...

does it really take one year to translate the game?

It's a real shame it isn't going to make a Christmas release.

Any news on DS Final Fantasy III. Will the English language version make a Xmas release?

Hit me with your import stick!

says that the ffxii release date is march the first 2007

But I was planning on using my holidays to squeeze every drop of life out of that game, and by next March I'll be back at uni. I swear companies (actually just Sony) in the Northern hemisphere don't understand what a BAD time of year March is to be releasing games. Our Summer is over, and everybody's getting settled into work/school/uni. And Sony want to release FFXII, the PS3 and God of War 2? It just seems stupid.

Oh well, I guess at least it'll mean that I can drag it out for longer, since it'll probably be the last Final Fantasy I get until the PS3 significantly comes down in price in a few years (or I win the lottery).

If by translate you mean translate all the in-game text, find voice actors, record all the voices for the game, synchronise the English with the Japanese, actually put all this new stuff into a different version of the game, add extra content (remember FFX International? That was a massive bonus for PAL) start production on the new version, test it, iron out the problems, package it, ship it out across the world - and allow at least a month for advertising and marketing.

If that is what you meant, then yeah it does take a year to "translate" the game.

What a shock icon_wink.gif

I was going to import the US version anyway. Tide me over till the Wii arrives.

Chrono Blue - FF3 is supposedly coming out in November in the US. I haven't heard anything of it's release here, so yet another import title I guess...

Not to mention the PAL release often has to get translations to other euro languages as well.

Good news, and about time. Since it's the last bit of life for the PS2.

Hmm... Well I predicted this later (I said past November), however I'm disapointed that Sony didn't put it on the PS3 icon_lol.gif

I think to put it on PS2 is a joke. They already have the PS3 out, well when it is going to be released, and PS2 is on its last legs. Oh well.

Why is it a joke? These past five years haven't been just sitting around time for Square, then deciding to make the game in 2006. They were working on it the entire time, and at the same time Sony was working on the PS3. Do you think, five years ago, Sony just said "here" and gave them all the details they needed to begin making a fully-fledged PS3 title?

Nothing is wrong with releasing it for PS2 - considering half the world owns one, and no one on the planet owns a PS3. If it grabs your goat that badly, pay $999 for a PS3 and put FFXII in there. It will work. The only problem you are having is that the graphics won't be as good as PS3 games. Tough bikkies, travel back in time and tell them to stop working on FFXII - because in a few years they will be able to make the exact same game, only with better graphics and a smaller potential sales market. That is a genius plan.

Well said Phil. Think before you post Echo. Hopefully you detected the sarcasm genius.

Same here, I'll be importing it from the US in October.

Oh yeah, I forgot about the differences in FFX between the PAL and NTSC versions. They added hours of life onto the endgame. If they do something like that again, all will be forgiven.
