God of War creator hints at third outing for Kratos

PS2 News | "I'm very confident of completing the trilogy."
We're already well aware of just how highly you lot regard the PlayStation 2's God of War, and now the creator of the franchise, which is set to see a second title appear in 2007, has said he wouldn't mind making the series a trilogy.

Writing in his blog earlier this week, Sony Santa Monica creative director David Jaffe wrote, "As Cory [Barlog, God of War II director] and I have said to the press, [God of War II] is the second act of a bigger story. And when you are making a game, you never really know if the game will turn out good enough to merit another one in the series. But after last week, I can say I am very confident of our chances to be able to complete the God of War trilogy. You never know, but that's me just putting it out there."

It's not the first time that God of War 3 has been mentioned - the aforementioned Barlog touched on the prospect of a third entry in the series last month in an interview with CVG, commenting that, "I would love to see a trilogy happen." What makes this news even more tantalising is the fact that the PlayStation 3 will be at least two months old by the time God of War II finally appears in 2007, meaning the chances of seeing a third instalment on the PlayStation 3 are, well, really rather good. So, next-gen God of War? Yes please, Sony.

So they've got 2 more chances to really impress me with their combat system eh? icon_razz.gif

I still stand with my decision that Devil May Cry 3's combat system demolishes God of Wars. Let's see if they can surpass it icon_smile.gif

But being more serious, tis very good news. God of War kicks large amounts of arse, and it'd be great to see a trilogy.

Don't bother waiting around then as Jafe never said he was competing with DMC3 or Ninja Gaiden.

I smell a film adaptation down the line.........no MTV please!!! I get the bad feeling that they would get the rights, like they have with The Suffering.

If they do make it into a film, give it to a film studio that will do justice to it and hire and director capable of handling a film adaptation of God of War. He has the appeal, you know, an anti-hero figure.

Anyway I immensely enjoy God of War (I say enjoy because I haven't finished it yet) and am looking forward to the sequel. For the third they shouldn't put it out on the PS2.

Unfortunately at this stage I am not getting a PS3, so if this is on it (and I think it will) I will be missing out on it.

Unless, of course, Sony lowers the price to like $500 but I don't see that happening until its been out for two years.

Bloody hell, just finish the second game before you start talking about the first one!! What if the second one is crap and nobody wants to play your 3rd game?! Seriously....some developers don't know when to just keep their mouths shut!

That being said though....I absolutely cannot wait for God of War II. Hopefully the story/fmv sequences are as awesome as the first game aswell (I have no doubts about the combat and finishing moves)!

I know, although the game still retains a combat system, and a combat system is like crack to me. I just want to see how much they improve upon the first icon_smile.gif
