E3 2006: New Spyro game announced

PS2 News | And it's being developed in Australia.
Vivendi has just announced that The Legend Of Spyro: A New Beginning is currently in development for the PlayStation 2, Xbox, Gamecube, Nintendo DS and Gameboy Advance. Krome Studios will be handling the development of all of these incarnations, except the Nintendo DS version, which will be developed by Amaze Entertainment.

The Legend of Spyro: A New Beginning will look closer at the origin of Spyro. There will be a lot of recognisable audio in the game as well, Elijah Wood will be the voice of Spyro, David Spade will be the voice of Sparx and Gary Oldman will voice ignitis, who is the fire dragon elder and Spyro's mentor.

The game will introduce a new dragon upgrade system. There have been no images released of the game yet, but when more information is revealed we'll report back.

Spyro has been a favorite series of mine since the first game. Even the bug infested Enter the DragonFly was a game I got some enjoyable play out of (Between the freezes, crashes and glitches). There is just something about the outline for this one that seems to set of an alarm in my mind. The origins of Spyro? Did we not cover that already in the first game? How much story could there be to tell before then? I smell some un-necessary retcon coming.

On the other hand, there is some strong Voice casting attached here. Elijah Wood and Gary Oldman are almost a certainty that the title will be worth listening to if not playing, and if Sparx has to talk (I still prefer the "humphrey" style of talking he did in the earlier game, where is was just a series of buzz noises that we could only understand thru the other characters reactions.) then David Spade should bring some added humor to the mix.
