However, it won't simply be the same thing with a few more songs. Developer Harmonix has added the ability to change its unique controller to a lead, rhythm or bass guitar on various songs, depending on whether players prefer shredding, looking cool, or, er, being a bass player. There is also a new co-op mode, so you can rip it up with friends for a really high score - which should be really interesting given the different types of guitar available, no?
The song list for the game is currently 'classified'. But, we can expect 55 songs across varying genres, such as heavy metal, hair metal, classic rock and modern rock - not to mention alternative. With a broad scope like that, the game should have something for everyone.
“Guitar Hero has proved phenomenally successful! Guitar Hero veterans will be able to plug in their Guitar Hero SG Controllers and rock GH II straight out of the box,” boasted Kelly Sumner. “We will really push the envelope with Guitar Hero II. Despite the fact there are many months until release, we’re already implementing exciting features and innovations.” Big words, Mr. Sumner.
The game will be first shown at E3 - which is just a few weeks away, for the many of you counting the days. It also has a November 2006 release date for the US, but there's no word on a PAL one as yet. As far as the first game and Australians are concerned, a mid-year release date is the latest we've heard. Let's hope it sticks.
