Superman Returns will, of course, take place in Metropolis, with free-roaming, GTA-style gameplay. The city should be vast, with a quoted '80 square miles and 10,000 buildings'. Whether these buildings are actually accessible is another matter. The city also changes during gameplay, reflecting your success as the man of steel - chaos ensuing if you stuff up, namely. There's a collateral damage meter, which builds up depending on the destruction caused and lifes lost. So, you'll want to save as many of those civillians as you can from whatever dangerous event seems to be causing distress at the time. Things get murky when there are two different problems at once though, and you'll have to choose which one is more important. With great power comes great responsibility, and so on.
Supes will have plenty of powers up his lycra sleeves, too. Flight is obvious, with Superman being able to, alledgedly, travel at 'over 800mph'. As well as that, there's the X-ray and heat vision, super speed, strength, hearing and breath. Super indeed.
The final game will ship in June, on Xbox 360, Xbox and PS2, coinciding with the release of the movie. EA have put a trailer on their website, but there's no in game footage, so it's not particularly useful. Some screens should emerge soon, so we'll keep you posted. Fingers crossed Supes can live up to his potential.
