Tomb Raider: Legend is going to be a remarkably different game to it's predecessors. A lot of effort has been put into the storyline and lot will be revealed. Eidos and Crystal Dynamics are keeping extremely quiet about the storyline of the game, but it should give us a different perspective on Lara and make her seem more like a human.
A few things have been changed which make the game a lot easier and a lot more promising. That terrible restrictive control from the past has been removed and Lara can now move a lot easier. Lara can now move fluidly as do her opponents, which immediately makes the game feel a lot more responsive. A new context sensitive button has been included in the game as well and this should mean that at times you can time your jumps easier and pull off a wider range of moves.
Since the Tomb Raider series debuted there has been significantly less Tomb Raiding than you would expect, this is something that Crystal Dynamics obviously agrees with and the game will return Lara to the environments of old, so most of the time you'll be playing in dark, edgy environments that feel very much like the Tomb Raider of 1996.
The environments themselves will actually be a hazard this time around as Lara will have to adventure through harsh climates like snow, fire and dangerous jungles. The environment appears to have a great impact on Lara as it can also be used to your advantage at times. Crystal Dynamics have also assured us that there will be greater level variation than we're used to as well. Whilst most of the environments are going to be indoors, there will be two exterior environments as well.
Tomb Raider: Legend will be available for the Playstation 2, Xbox, PC, Xbox 360 and Playstation Portable. The Xbox 360 version mostly boasts clearer and sharper visuals, whereas the PSP game actually contains a few bonus modes as well as a bonus artwork. However, for the most part the main single player adventure will be similar. We'll have more information on Tomb Raider: Legend as soon as it becomes available, but currently it looks like this could be the game to return Tomb Raider to it's roots, and that can only be a good thing. It's probably worth playing through the previous Tomb Raider games one more time, because after this game you're probably never going to come back to the previous titles.
