SingStar Rocks! announced

PS2 News | Rock on!
Hot on the trail of the four previous SingStar successes comes SingStar Rock! – the newest compilation from Sony Computer Entertainment Europe.

The theme here is obviously rock songs, but the twist is that the focus will be on live gigs that the included acts have performed. Exactly what Sony is planning to do is unknown at this point - what is known is that you’ll be able to sing-a-long to 30 licensed tracks when the game is released. The following tracks are confirmed and give you an idea of the direction Sony is taking in song selection this time around:

Maximo Park - Apply Some Pressure
Hole - Celebrity Skin
Stereophonics - Dakota
The Killers - Somebody Told Me
Snow Patrol - Run
Bloc Party - Banquet
Franz Ferdinand - Do You Want To?
Kasabian - Club Foot
Razorlight - Somewhere Else
Jet - Are You Gonna Be My Girl?
Rolling Stones - Paint It Black
Nirvana - Come As You Are
The Subways - Rock'n'Roll Queen
Bowling for Soup - 1985
The Bravery - An Honest Mistake
Blur - Song 2

You’ll be able to rock-out to the latest SingStar title later this year.

what a load of bollocks. the word 'rock' is thrown around too much and it pisses me off.

the subways are definately rock, though

I just thought of an awesome idea (that most of you allready would have). Singstar for the PS3 should work by letting the user download songs that they want from PS3 online. Because I really wouldn't want to pay for maybe 5 songs I like in a game.

its not as simple as that. they would have to get the rights to each song (actually, if the article on the music database was correct then it wouldnt matter), and they would obviously have to tingle with them in order to recognise the crapness of the singer. they wont have thousands of songs to choose from, no way in hell.

I think there is a potential to have a set of say, 100 downloadble, licensed songs that users can choose to play - but I doubt that would happen as it becomes a matter of which games deserve the downloadable content.

Not only that, but where does one draw the line? Downloadable levels - customise level progression to suit you. Downloading the add-ons rather than buying them from the store?

Personally, being able to customize the soundtrack of those music games (Like SingStar, DDR etc) would entice me to buy the game, rather than if it didn't (As I'm sure would be the case with any gamer.)

If they put Yellowcard on it I'll buy it, nah not even that is a big enough draw.

Having 1985 on it is stupid, that song isn't really rock, and do people actually know the words to Song 2?

EVERYONE knows the words to song 2. youngins these days dont listen to lyrics!

^ That's the song off the old K-mart ads right?

I think I was partially getting confused with that and 2 + 2 = 5 by Radiohead and I don't know the lyrics to it anyway. Maybe if I listened to it a few times I would know them.

The Killers woo.

I like about 2 of those songs and don't mind about 3 of them.

Depends on price.

Nice that they included some Aussie tracks for this market!
