Codemasters have announced today that the much loved Sensible Soccer series will make its long awaited return in Q2 2006 on the PlayStation 2, Xbox and PC.
The game is set to retain the same lightning fast gameplay and high scoring matches that players so often enjoyed in the early to mid 90s. Codemasters have also sensibly (ho-ho!) retained the viewpoint of the original games, ensuring that the new Sensible Soccer won't just be a watered down Pro Evolution or FIFA clone.
Jon Hare, producer and designer of the original Sensible Soccer is in charge, and has been working on a collaborative design with several Codemasters veterans. Kuju Entertainment, developers of the recently acclaimed Battalion Wars, will be in charge of the production side of things.
"Following the success of Sensible Soccer's recent mobile edition and the fantastic retro Plug 'n' Play TV version of the game, it's great to bring a truly new version out for the first time in over eight years on all of the major formats." says Jon Hare, now a director of Tower Studios and games design consultant. "We are doing everything in our power to modernise and recreate the sheer playability, fun and footballing depth of the original and remind the playing public just what they have been missing out in the current market of slow, drab sims."
Sensible Soccer will feature stacks of teams and players, multiplayer for four players, and 50 different competitions from across the globe. There will also be a DIY Competition mode, so you can play cups, leagues and such with your own set of rules. You'll also be able to create your own Dream Team in the new Custom Career mode, where you'll also be able to obtain all sorts of upgrades and unlockable items. The game is also set to include as yet unrevealed special content to celebrate Sensible Soccer's 15th anniversary.
PALGN will have more news on Sensible Soccer as it breaks.
