Despite the overall enjoyment for the games provide, Studio London have been producing them at a rate that is bordering on obsessive. When Singstar 80's comes out there will have been four Singstar titles released within eighteen months of each other. We've decided to take a look at the latest compilation to judge whether it is going to be one to add to your collection.
Straight off the bat, we have to commend the game for the tracklist. While still debatable, it appears to us that this tracklist is the best we've come across. Whilst the tracklist we've been given isn't finalised, it is still looking to us like the songs are going to be good to sing. The only thing we'd be a little worried about would be the quality of the video clips, considering they are already twenty years old.
For those keeping count, the game will include thirty tracks from the 1980s. With the previous titles each game has included songs exclusive to each territory, we don't think this is planning for the Singstar 80's as nothing concrete has been announced.
The full tracklist includes:
- Alice Cooper - Poison
- Belinda Carlisle - Heaven Is A Place On Earth
- Billy Joel - Uptown Girl
- Blondie - Atomic
- Culture Club - Karma Chameleon
- Dexy's Midnight Runners - Come On Eileen
- Dolly Parton - Nine To Five
- Duran Duran - Rio
- Erasure - A Little Respect
- Europe - The Final Countdown
- Fairground Attraction - Perfect
- Foreigner - I Want To Know What Love Is
- Frankie Goes To Hollywood - The Power Of Love
- Kate Bush - Running Up That Hill
- Katrina And The Waves - Walking On Sunshine
- Madness - Our House
- Madonna - Material Girl
- Marillion - Kayleigh
- Nena - 99 Red Balloons
- Run DMC - It's Tricky
- Simple Minds - Don't You (Forget About Me)
- Soft Cell - Tainted Love
- Starship - We Built This City
- Survivor - Eye Of The Tiger
- Tears For Fears - Everybody Wants To Rule The World
- The Cure - Just Like Heaven
- The Pretenders - Brass In Pocket
- Tina Turner - Simply The Best
- Vanilla - Ice Ice Ice Baby
- Wham! - Wake Me Up Before You Go Go
The tracklist is fairly recognisable, with only a few bizarre inclusions. The original tracklist contained music by INXS which has since been omitted, this is a real shame and we can only assume this is due to some licensing issues. Hopefully, Sony will sort these issues out and the game will come out with one of Australia's greatest bands on the disc.
We're hoping that Studio London put a little more effort into maximising the value for single players this time around. The series has changed so there is essentially no real single player mode - which is a disappointment as the first Singstar had a fairly reliable solo mode. We're also hoping that the game includes some bonus unlockable songs, which will motivate us to play the game alone.
With a retail price of $49.95 (or $99.95 with the microphones) we're really hoping that Singstar 80's isn't just like a compact disc with video clips, we'll have a review of the title as soon as possible.
