New project for the Gran Turismo team

PS2 News | And it doesn't involve cars...
Nope, no cars here - instead we have motorbikes. As you may have heard over the past few days, the good folks over at Polyphony Digital have taken the wraps off their latest project, known as Tourist Trophy. It comes complete with a really original subtitle - 'The Real Riding Simulator'. Now where have we heard that before...?

Polyphony are taking the game completely in the sim direction, which will no doubt please many purists. All the big manufacturers - Kawasaki, Honda, Suzuki and so on - will be included in the game too, with bikes from as early as the 80's included. The game is set for a Japanese release on New Year's Eve - no word on a PAL, or even American, release as yet.

For the PS2, hey?
My father would love this game (sim) - I guess I might end up buying this if it's as attention-to-detail as the GT games and if it comes to Australia... maybe...

Bike sim huh....
Well, only bad part for me is "sim"

Anyone uses a Motorbike for transport anyways?

I heard about this a few years ago with some very bad pictures (early). I cant beleive we are now only hearing of it again?
Or am I just insane?

Insane. Polyphony only begun working on this new game after the release of Gran Turismo 4 in Japan.
I'm looking forward to the game. I played MotoGP 2 on Xbox a few months ago (yes I am slow, so shoot me) and I loved how different it felt compared to the racing games I am used to. It took a bit to get the hang of it too which was a real nice change for me. Knowing Polyphony and their attention to detail with physics, I expect this game to be absolutely brilliant. I look forward to it immensely and so far the trailer has shown a few GT tracks but obviously there will be new ones too. (Special Stage Route 5 was one of them, as was Motegi and Suzuka)

I am a bit disappointed with their console of choice though. I think they should make it a next generation game now, I mean after all it is Polyphony we are talking about. The Ps2 is already slowly making way for the next generation, with added delays on Polyphony's part this game may not receive the sales it might deserve. Oh well, bring it on anyway. icon_biggrin.gif

I was going to say they got sick and tired of the racing simulation genre, but it seems they're not risk-takers.

If only they would announce a sequel to Omega Boost.

not being a Bike fan i kinda greeted this news with a meh.

i haven't really enjoyed the MotoGP games precisely because they were motorbikes, so i doubt i'll get into this game either, but stranger things have happened, especially given Polyphony's track record (huehuehue) with games, i might simply get it because it's theirs.

i, too, remember hearing and seeing some minor stuff about Polyphony and Bikes a few years ago, but i think it was them considering adding Bikes to GT3 (it might've even been GT2000 still at the time).

i for one, am glad they decided not to add bikes to GT.

Now that would be a dream come true. icon_smile.gif

I also heard rumours of Polyphony considering Bikes, but at the time it was for GT2000 as ObsoletE mentioned. I am also glad they reconsidered and well developing a specific bike game is a much better idea than simply adding it to a car one. After all, Gran Turismo isn't the Real Racing Simulator, it is the Real Driving Simulator.
