Xenosaga II receives PAL release

PS2 News | Finally!
After missing out on quite possibly one of the most exciting RPGs for the PlayStation era in the form of Xenogears, and more recently Xenosaga, Sony Europe has today announced the release of Xenosaga Episode II: Jenseits von Gut und Böse, the second title in the critically acclaimed Xenosaga series.

Sony has confirmed that the PAL version will include an exclusive special edition version, which includes a limited edition packaging and an exclusive DVD detailing the events leading up to the sequel.

Developed by SquareEnix spin-off studio Monolith and published by Namco, Xenosaga Episode II takes place thousands of years into a war-torn future, humanity has advanced to such a degree that its substantial resources of weapons and technology distort the boundaries of human limits. In this sequel, contend for control over the original Zohar to unravel its mystery and defeat the threat of the Gnosis.

Xenosaga Episode II is currently scheduled for an October 28 release across all PAL countries.

About dang time...

I haven't played the first game, but this DVD seems to be a pretty good substitute for that. It did the trick with Shenmue II, so I can only assume it would work here too.

If this turns out to be more action orientated than the first game, then I'm in. As much as I like cutscenes, Ep1 seemed to reeaally over do it, and was apparently pretentious about it too. Last thing I want to do in a game is watch 30min cutscenes that piss me off.

There is my birthday present right there. What a nice thing to wake up to on the 28th, a copy of this game in PAL format. Top stuff.

^ Yeah, it's like there's this assumption that everyone has broadband. But, if you don't mind waiting, you can always download what you want anyway. icon_biggrin.gif

Am I the only one who's less than impressed by Namco's actions here? I mean, I've waited for this series for over a year now, on the basis that it was going to tell one of the best stories in videogame history - not because the PS2's exactly suffering from a dearth of turn-based RPGs - and suddenly Namco decides that I have to start reading from page 500?

I take the point about XBox Shenmue II and its pack-in DVD, but the situation here's hardly the same - Shenmue was originally a Dreamcast game, and it surely would have been time-consuming to port it to XBox, but Xenosaga episode one is already available on PS2 in the States, in English - the NTSC/PAL conversion process would surely not be expensive enough to outweigh the undoubted financial gains that Monolith/Namco would see if they released both games, in order.
The whole thing just smacks of a genuine dislike for the gamer here, as I can see no genuine justification for Namco not to release the first game in the series as the first game in the series to the PAL gamer.

Of course, I'll still go out and get it, though.

Becuase we are not NTSC and we're not American/Japanese so we aint the biggest piece of the pie. Europe/Austrailia does not have a major console manufacturor, so we can pay twice the price and wait longer for games: they couldn't give a rats ar*e about us, because we have no choice but to wait. If you can't wait import your console from the US and all your games and get a 220 to 110 convertor for the console, your TV can handle it.

Wow, dude. It's nothing to do with waiting, Xenosaga Episode 1 has existed for over two years now in the States, it's out on budget and it simply does not make sense that Namco would not see the possible financial gain involved in porting the first game over before the second - I'd pay £25 for Der Wille zur Macht if I could be sure that it worked - this isn't really the place for a "Why don't PAL territories get Growlanser or Digital Devil Saga or 50% of the Japanese RPGs released in America" rant, but having owned a PS2 for over 18 months and still being 14 years old with no sustainable income, I simply cannot afford to import another PS2 just to play an extra five or six games, however much I may want them. It shouldn't be the case that companies can mistreat the hardcore gamer audience (because that's who this game will appeal to, pop psychology and all) for seemingly no reason, considering that there's so many people in PAL territories who've waited for this game.

Sorry, just calming down from the notification of the nasal payment for the XBOX 360, and I am in the same situation as you. I am seriously considering importing an XBOX360. Also think about mod-chipping that PS2 for NTSC games.

I'm not really in a situation where I can mod my PS2, as my dad is kind of a police dude - I did try something called Swap Magic with an NTSC copy of Xenosaga Episode 1, but that failed spectacularly (or, actually, it just, uh, failed), which only served to make me desperate for a PAL version.
Still, if that bonus DVD is any good (i.e. at least 20x better than 'Shenmue: The Movie'), the anger will be lessened a little, although I'll still be dying inside as I see the things I was meant to be doing acted out for me on screen, while Namco execs no doubt laugh at my ilk (yes, all 109 of us) and the anguish they've caused. Or something.

Woah hehe

This is a surprise. However the first game is kinda better >_>

Although second one has some nice additions. So weird that they are finally doing it, I'm just stunned given how much story is involved and the cost/time of translating it. The first game sold better as well.....

Oh and I really suggest that you change that avatar/graphic for the news story, because that art style was only used for the first game. I think if you google a pic of KOS-MOS from episode 2 you will be quite surprised icon_razz.gif

Suprise not to me considering Namco; and not ONLY Namco mind you, has been denying gamers in the PAL region good RPG gems like these. Sure fair enough they put in a DVD to recap what has happened in the first game.

Why didn't they have the foresight to see that the first game would sell well if they had marketed it for R4 too?

About time I'll say but enough to consider future releases?

/me ends rant
