We Love Katamari set to roll over to Europe

PS2 News | Thanks to EA, though no word yet on possible Oz release.
Grand news arrived today for us long-suffering PAL types, with an announcement that We Love Katamari, the sequel to the quite inexplicably brilliant Katamari Damacy (which we gave 8.5), will be published in Europe. And the publisher that you lot should all be sending your 'thank you' letters to? Well, rather unexpectedly, it's EA.

The North American publisher, who over the last decade and a half has built something of a reputation for backing only safer, more risk-averse projects, will co-publish We Love Katamari for the PlayStation 2 in early 2006, a decidedly niche game if ever there was one. It's predecessor, Katamari Damacy, was only ever published in Japan and the U.S, so we're pleased as punch that it'll be getting a European version. So pleased that we used the phrase 'pleased as punch', despite loathing it.

As with the first game, the general gist of We Love Katamari is to roll a large, sticky ball about colourful and varied levels, picking up anything and everything that stands in your path, from sushi to lamps to policemen to giant sperm whales to helicopters and well, you get the idea. The bigger your ball (or katamari) gets, the bigger the objects you can pick up, and play continues in this vein, usually against a clock.

Speaking to the Japanese press yesterday, the game's creator - one Keita Takahashi - sounded quite pleased by the latest developments when he proclaimed, 'At last, the time has come for our fans in Europe to enjoy We Love Katamari. I am so excited about this! Basically, this is a silly game that doesn't involve a whole lot of thinking, but if you will just laugh and sing along as you roll, roll and roll, I'm sure you will find it to be a lot of fun.'

Get ready to be laughing, singing and rolling in early 2006. You probably won't want to miss this one.

Ive only heard good things about katamari.As the only way to place a ps2 controller in my hands is to chop off one of my arms first and then do with it as you please, ill never have the chance to play it.But....sounds cool.....i like cool icon_cool.gif

This franchise looks like pure fun, and nothing but fun - no need for a story, and no need for anything to actually make sense.
Just random fun.
My kind of game.

Like Jibbs, I'm not very willing to get PS2 games any more, even though I still own my PS2 - I'd rather put the money into Nintendo stuffs.
That said, if this game come down here, then I'll probably get it.

QUESTION:
Would the original game that never got a PAL release work if imported from the US, or not?
I think not - please confirm...

I'm hoping that the PAL region gets the Japanese box cover art or the Korean box cover art of the game;

Because the US box art looks like this. Pretty crappy IMO.
