The North American publisher, who over the last decade and a half has built something of a reputation for backing only safer, more risk-averse projects, will co-publish We Love Katamari for the PlayStation 2 in early 2006, a decidedly niche game if ever there was one. It's predecessor, Katamari Damacy, was only ever published in Japan and the U.S, so we're pleased as punch that it'll be getting a European version. So pleased that we used the phrase 'pleased as punch', despite loathing it.
As with the first game, the general gist of We Love Katamari is to roll a large, sticky ball about colourful and varied levels, picking up anything and everything that stands in your path, from sushi to lamps to policemen to giant sperm whales to helicopters and well, you get the idea. The bigger your ball (or katamari) gets, the bigger the objects you can pick up, and play continues in this vein, usually against a clock.
Speaking to the Japanese press yesterday, the game's creator - one Keita Takahashi - sounded quite pleased by the latest developments when he proclaimed, 'At last, the time has come for our fans in Europe to enjoy We Love Katamari. I am so excited about this! Basically, this is a silly game that doesn't involve a whole lot of thinking, but if you will just laugh and sing along as you roll, roll and roll, I'm sure you will find it to be a lot of fun.'
Get ready to be laughing, singing and rolling in early 2006. You probably won't want to miss this one.
