The release date comes as a surprise considering that Sony plan to release their PlayStation 3 console in the same year. Whether this is an indication that the PS3 won’t be released until late 2006 is obviously yet to be seen, but it would be a certainty that Sony wouldn’t want to affect the sales of one of their most treasured franchises by for the sake of their next home console.
Unfortunately, no official date was revealed for other countries. However, Square Enix did comment that the game would follow a similar trend in release dates as previous Final Fantasy titles, meaning that we might not see Final Fantasy XII until December 2006, at the earliest.
While there isn’t a lot of satisfying news to be drawn from this, we do have several new screenshots courtesy of Square Enix, so a quick visit to the Media Panel is recommended.
