Chainsaw controller destined for PAL PS2s

PS2 News | Time to act out all those Leatherface fantasies.
Today brought good news for fans of the wonderful, brilliant, superb, engrossing and downright, er, wonderful Resident Evil 4. When the PlayStation 2 version of the game (for now it's only available on Gamecube of course) is released this September, we'll all be given the chance to own one of the unique Resident Evil Chainsaw controllers that peripheral maker Wild Things brought out alongside the Gamecube version of Resident Evil 4 back in March.

And with the Gamecube batch having sold out faster than a mid-range petrol-powered Stiga chainsaw cutting through a human neck (Er... - Ed), Wild Things have decided to treat PS2 owners to their own version. They've really gone to town on the thing as well. It comes in it's very own presentation box, and giving the pull cord a yank starts games off, as well as producing a lovely roaring, rasping sound. Nice.

It'll probably be priced around the £40 / $90AU / €60 mark, though Wild Things have yet to confirm anything. In the meantime, read our review of the Gamecube version of Resident Evil 4 here, or take a look at the chainsaw itself here.

Does anyone know the figures for the GCN, I'm guessing it must have made a profit to make a Sony controller.

Looks really, really non-violent icon_wink.gif

Resident Evil 4 on the Cube just broke through the 500,000 barrier last week worldwide, though I've no idea how many of the chainsaw controllers were distributed for the Cube. But they went quick alright.

If this doesn't stop video-game-related violence, nothing will.

It was 500,000 in the USA alone at the end of may.

It's sold 1.5 million worldwide at this point.

Yeah, a lot of places sold out of chainsaw controllers, but they have them again now. Apparently it's not a very good controller, but a nice collectible - so I don't see why a PS2 version is needed (since all RE fans will have RE4 on cube already).

How on earth can that thing function as a controller? It boggles the mind. By the looks of it, you'd need freakishly large hands... Yeah, it looks like that thing would make a cool collectable, but controller... icon_confused.gif
