It isn't like we didn't expect the PS2 version to runless smoothly than the GCN-optimised version. No suprises here.

So chuny you can carve it...

I didn't know the power of the PS2 and the GCN were so different.
Ah well...

Just had another look, these look pretty terrible. Way lower screen resolution, no bump mapping, blurry repetitive textures, way lower polygon counts, washed out colours, simplified geometry.

It looks bad, even for a PS2 game - looks somewhere between a PS1 and Dreamcast in some ways (mainly resolution - haven't seen mess like that since PS1).

I suppose that's what you get when porting a game from a powerful system to a weak one. Rather then play to the system's own strengths, trying to copy a completed game doesn't work.

RE4 on GC looks like the next generation - here, now. ON PS2 it looks like last generation.

I don't think it's in terms of that the GCN is more powerful thean the PS2, it's just that the engine for RE4 is optimised for the GCN and not the PS2, much like MGS2:Substance was optimised for the PS2 and not the Xbox (on which it clearly was graphically inferior).

Have a look at the graphics in Snake Eater (if you've finished the game, I refer to the environmental effects during the last boss battle in particular), that's proof the PS2 is no weakling.

However, it's impractical to rewrite the engine for what essentially is a port, so I suppose Capcom is doing the best they can, and PS2 owners will still recieve a top-notch game.

Have you played RE4 on GC? I've played the first few hours of MGS3, and NOTHING in that time came close to almost anything in RE4.

And so far, this PS2 port looks about 43 notches short of being a 'top notch game'.

Yeah, I was referring to the last few hours of the game. icon_wink.gif

Of course it doesn't look like a top notch game at the moment. Thankfully we're not playing the graphics when we're playing a game. The two graphical shortcomings that could possibly have an influence on the gameplay are atmosphere and frame-rate. If they can get the latter down pat (and with the graphical shortcomings, it looks as though they will), then the game will still be enjoyable to play.

Yeah, I dunno about you guys, but I would not put $100 for game which is an inferior port. RE4 graphics created a brillant atmosphere, and looking at screen shots makes me think they aren't even trying.....

Like you know David, ive had screenshots for the PS2 version for ages!

while i wouldn't say it looks like last gen, it certainly looks like one of the original batch of PS2 games... almost like the original Devil May Cry (the sh!tty PAL version, i don't know if the NTSC version was any better)...

the monster in picture 8 looks like a LOTR Troll

Ha ha yeah I was thinking about that.

That picture was hilarious when you first showed it!

But that picture actually looks better then the real ones. If the PS2 could do that, it could do much better then the real shots.

Check out the villagers - almost PS1 quality.

^ haha. To be honest im not surprised. The PS2 just isnt powerful enough. It looks like Sony is going the right way with the PS3 though icon_biggrin.gif

Comparison: (leeched from IGN)

PS2:

Gamecube: (I know it's a different part, but the second Il Gigante actually looked better in the gamecube version, so if anything it's unfair to gamecube)

PS2:

looking for another gamecube....

^ works if you copy the location and place in addy bar...

they look like 2 totally different monsters... as i said, the PS2 version looks like a Troll from the LOTR movies/games...

that's weird...

Oh well, I can be happy that I have the quality version. icon_smile.gif I should still imagine it will sell awesome, it's not that bad for PS2 graphics.
