GTA 4 in development

PS2 News | Believe it or not, GTA will actually have another sequel...

It may not come as a surprise, but C&VG revealed that Rockstar North has assigned a team of 5 people to start designing the true sequel to GTA3. This next installment is planned to be made for the next generation hardware, as the designers "looked at what they want to do and realised they cannot do it with current technology, so they're building it from scratch," says C&VG's source.

While the recently confirmed followup to Vice City, widely believed to be based on San Andreas, will be the last game based on the GTA3 engine, Rockstar North wants to rebuild the whole game with GTA4 for next-generation console, most likely for PS3. "Expect more of the same as Vice City for that, but GTA 4 will be completely different."

Any official announcements about GTA 4 is not to be expected in a while, but keep a look out for news about "San Andreas".

Ok heres the dillio, you all think you are too good for these games, dont buy them, i think this would be a much better forum if we would, instead of discussing the technically of exploration ( and everyone knows gta surpasses almost all in exploration ) why dont we just think of things that would make the game better give rockstar some initiative on what they should put into the game instead of just bashing their previous ones. If you want the perfect game, go make one, because rockstar doesnt revolve around you fools who just find things to say that suck about games that are already out, boost the new ones, dont bust the old ones.

GTA doesn't surpass everything in exploration, saying that is just, foolish. The thing is exploration is not all that is needed for a game to be great, the player has to feel like they want to find stuff, in GTA once you have some good weapons you don't bother, hidden packages seemed worthwhile in GTA3, and the tokens were deffinetely worth while in GTA2, those mini games were great. Vice City was far too similar to GTA3 and was released far too soon after it.

I thought they would focus more on everything else about the game since they were barely touching the engine, I was wrong, Vice City was GTA3 in a new map with bikes and planes and a less involving story, I just didn't associate with my character at all. If you don't either feel like it is you or like the character then what's the point in the story? That's my opinion anyway.

So what Rockstar need to do is get the player to associate with the character, he can't just be some jerk you don't care about. Less collecting stuff, finding hidden missions and mini games is cool and all but it should just be for fun, no losses from it, if you play them all you should get some cool bonus, like an arcade machine in your apartment, where you can play them all again and perhaps earn stuff whilst playing them again.

I can't wait till GTA IV come out, i'm sure it's gonna be a great game, especially on new PS3 platform. #1 game on my list.

what gta4 needs is a multiplayer section where u hut down each other a lot like halo multiplayer xbox and then have 20 or 30 people all on all playing over the net

gta 3 and vice city have an mp allready, and halo doesnt have anything incomment with gta so they cant make same kind of mp, but like i said vc and gta3 have a mp allready

They actually have a little bit in common, but obviously your claims are based on the aesthetics - Halo being 1st person, and GTA being 3rd. You could structure a GTA deathmatch to be similar to a Halo deathmatch.

Vice City was a huge upgrade from 3...better weapons, storylines, soundtracks and missions, plus the business opportunities part was amazing. There was so much to this game it was hard to keep track. I could go on and on about how amazing this game is. But yes, the missions were very short, there definitely could have been more. I think as long as there is a new GTA game with fresh new graphics and storylines, it would be a hit. If you remember the original GTA, there were 3 cities in the game- Liberty City, Vice City, and San Andreas. Perhaps the new GTA will be San Andreas? We'll see. Any word on a release date?

Yes, that's more or less confirmed. There'll be one last "add-on" in the style of Vice City, then there'll be GTA 4.

it would be better, if you could do a real missions to police not that, kill'em all "vigilante" i mean kind of like where comes the little movie where somebody says something to you and then you do same kind of missions as you do to gangs, that would be great..

but they wont do it.

I remember reading an editorial when the PC gaming community only knew of GTA and GTA 2 - it was written by someone who claimed GTA was just The Legend of Zelda.

Of course you mix in a bit more violence and such, but it was pretty credible. The thing that made the whole ordeal not hilarious was the writer backing it all up with facts that were so true.

GTA4, almost definately at some stage.

Manhunt didn't seem to be a great success, so I doubt they'd bother with a PC version.
