Manhunt Officially Banned

PS2 News | Manhunt Officially ILLEGAL to own in Australia.
At the time of writing this I'm trying not to rant about the injustices of not having an R18+ games rating in Australia, however attempting just to stick to the facts is ridiculously hard.

Ten months after Manhunt's release on the Playstation 2, it has been Refused Classification by the Office of Film and Literature. This now means it's illegal to own a copy of Manhunt. People who own the title are being advised to "destroy" their copy... yeah, that's likely.

The removal of Manhunt from store shelves will begin tomorrow.

i saw it on tuesday everywhere... but then it was banned on wednesday according to the news here...

i think it's an interesting idea, but i haven't played it (i really want to too) alas it looks as if i'll have to download it now if i want to...

$10,000 fine for being caught owning it guys... $150,000 per copy for selling it, or offering it for sale...

hahaha, the government wont stop me selling it if i want to

Funny how I've never seen this game anywhere, even when it was legal. <_<

there was a period about a month ago when i wanted it that i couldn't find it, then on tuesday it was everywhere... people probably trying to make sure they sold their stock...

i'm thinking that if OFLC now want us to destroy the game they allowed through then revoked, should we send them a bill?

assuming you bought them game obviously...

I jus think its pathetic we don't even have an R rating for games!

It'll be interesting to see what other games we'll miss out on because of this stupid decision. Leisure Suit Larry: Magna Cum Laude banned, come off it. That's what life is all about.

My friend has a copy. Better tell him to hold on to it since it'll be worth a bit later on, being an illegal game and all.

I wonder if they have ANY CLUE AT ALL that the fact they've decided to pull a game that's been out for TEN FREAKIN' MONTHS makes them look INCREDIBLY incompetent.

and i was just about to buy a copy for my new xbox
thats a bummer it should not of got a r18+ rating thats outrageous!

So what do the law-abiding citizens do with their copies? icon_confused.gif

PALGN's free Manhunt destruction service:

Send them all to:

Manhunt Is Wrong
PAL Gaming Network
2 Celosia Pl
Loftus, NSW
Australia 2232

And we'll disposed of them in the correct law abiding manner. However I don't think the postal service accepts dangerous materials, so you might have to drive / fly over here just to drop it off.

i still think sending the OFLC a bill for whatever you paid for the game is a good idea...

i might buy a copy so i can do it...

sort of Passive/Agressive protest... i'll ring A Current Affair...

Wait, you don't get your money back without a protest?
well, i meant it as a protest against the lunacy of our laws...

then again, ACA probably isn't interested in the truth... too many dodgy plumbers ripping off little old lady pensioners...

Okay this is ridiculous. I can understand why the game is banned and personally, I couldn't give a rats behind either.
But people who already own it have to destroy their copies? Piss off.
$10,000 fine if you're caught having the game in your collection?

Seriously, who the fark would pay that? The government will never learn...

Actually m8 its not illegal to own a copy, how did you get that idea? the OFLC hasnt said its illegal to own a copy. its illegal to, sell, demotrate, advertise, distibute, manhunt. LMAO advised to destroy there copy, dude thats rediculeous.

i'm only going by what they said on all the news reports i heard..

i know, "it was on tv so it must be true" but when it was on 3 tv channels (7, 10 and ABC) plus triple J and ninemsn news as well, i start to wonder if it's true...

it did sound kinda stupid to me though too, but then Australia does have retroactive legislation... what you do today might be legal, but tomorrow its illegal and you can still be charged for it...

Rushes out to shops to find a copy of manhunt!

iF MANHUNT IS GONE THEN MANY MORE GAMES ARE PROBABLY SOON TO go. Perhaps America's 10 most wanted will be next on the chopping block.
